[ QUOTE ] The Maria Staredown Jeff "Mr. Rain" Banghart raises to 125,000 in the cutoff, and Maria Ho on the button re-raises to 350,000. Kevin Farry in the small blind three-bets all in for 2,000,000. Banghart folds and Ho stares Farry down for several minutes. She finally lays it down. Mr. Rain now has 1,040,000. Ho has 700,000. Farry has 2,700,000. [/ QUOTE ] Yikes, she puts in 1/3 of her stack and then lays down her hand getting more than 2 to 1. She's not going to last much longer playing like that. [/ QUOTE ] Does she HAVE to call there if she has something like AQ (just a range guess) knowing the guy putting in the 3rd raise has to have her in jail there? |

This is not because of a pretend crush, and is because I'm not a great MTT player, but when a guy 3-bets all in, is getting 2:1 really enough to call given his likely hand range? I can see folding 88-JJ there a lot.

[/ QUOTE ] Sometimes you make a play like that against a strong opponent thinking they will do your math and assume that you're committed to the hand entailing their fold. If they come over the top strong, in tournament situations like that, it's okay to fold even if the math requires the call. Plus, it sets up a potential trap for you later (maybe they'll come over again with a marginal holding thinking you don't ahve the courage to call it off deep in the tourney without a monster). |

"the problem is that she does not have enough chips to play a trap. she has to push or fold now."
My perspective in situations like this is that I'd rather be folding or pushing T700,000 in spots I can pick than calling off my stack feeling pretty dominated. |

[ QUOTE ]
Alaei Doubles Up, Hitting a Miracle Deuce on the River Daniel Alaei had his back against the ropes holding Ah2h against Stefan Mattsson's AdQs . Alaei had moved all-in before the flop for his last 945,000 and Mattsson made the call. The board filled out Ks6d4c4d , giving Alaei four additional outs to a straight by the turn, but it was the deuce he paired on the river that kept him alive. Alaei stacked up just over 2 million in chips after the hand, while Mattsson dropped to 3,300,000. [/ QUOTE ] wheeeeeeeeeeeee |
