So hot. I didn't think they were meant to win this one, but they went ahead and did anyway.

Weird play, I guess they called it a swing. Wouldn't that still count as a foul ball? I always thought your hand was part of the bat. [/ QUOTE ] This is apparently not an MLB rule which is why he's out. |

Francona says the ruling was it hit him, but he swung, no mention of anything else so apparently I made up that hands part of the bat rule.

[/ QUOTE ] yeah they just discussed it on NESN, it doesn't matter if it hits him, if he attempts to swing at it when there are 2 strikes. this may prevent guys from swinging & diving at the ball in attempt to rescue himself from a pitchers count. |

on the indians telecast they were strongly considering the fact that the hands = the bat on a swing. i have no idea, but i see zero evidence of this in MLB.com's rules, but then again searching mlb.com's rules makes my head hurt.

i don't think i've ever seen an inside the park HR where the guy had so much room to spare [/ QUOTE ] Bill Buckner had an inside-the-park job to right at Fenway. This was at the end, when he could barely walk. It was pretty funny to see him chugging around the bases while the center fielder had to run all the way over to the RF corner to retrieve the ball (the RF was out cold in the front row, having been chop-blocked by the two-foot high wall). I don't even know if there was a throw home. Watching the old guy trying to catch his breath in the dugout was even funnier. Youk's ItPHR reminded me of Butch Hobson's, who managed to hit this door, kicking the ball toward the Fisk Pole, and away from the converging outfielders.

Well, there was the time Baltimore's David Newhan hit a deep triple to the triangle... [/ QUOTE ] I swear to God, I remember Manny cutting that ball off, but I didn't know that was an ItPHR. Or if I knew it, I forgot it. |

[/ QUOTE ] Not true- he's no speedster, but I'd bet he runs faster than the average ML corner man. He's had some infield hits and avoided DPs on plays where I expected him to be out by two steps. My question is where was Dellucci on that play? |
