Lost should have ended in one season. The only reason its still not finished is because of the ratings and the money that they make now. I stopped watching it a couple of episodes in season two because I only watched it to find out 'the secret' about lost. And I dont want that to take 5 seasons to figure out.
(Prison break is the same problem, but they managed to keep the story more interesting in season2). |

last night was an awful session.. flopped a set of 10's on an A-10-x rainbow board.. all the money goes in on the flop dude had A-10 and runner runner flushed me.. next table had about $260.. table big stack had about $300 i smooth call out of bb with 56 flop comes 2-3-4 rainbow.. he bets, i raise, he re-pops i move all in.. he has 2-2 and board pairs on the river..
anyway... i am obsessed with LOST (have the LOST logo as my stars picture).. the reason they moved the time slot back was because it was going head to head with American Idol at 9pm on Wednesday.. and needless to say anything going up against Idol gets killed.. so they pushed it back an hour. |

Yeah, Lost has the same problem as many other serial dramas with a singular arc... I call it "Failure is the only option" and it dates waaaay back. On TV, you can trace it back to shows like The Fugitive and fugitive-rip-offs like The Incredible Hulk.
The heroes can never win. If the do, the series is over. So all that's left are minor victories and a string of failures. It's really hard to balance between keeping the arc vibrant and not pissing off your audience who want to see the good guys win. X-Files is of course the poster child for this. The thing about X-Files though is that many of the best episodes are the stand-alone episodes are the best episodes. So it seems that X-Flies could have either survied solving the big arc or never fallen into the trap of making the conspiracy arc so overwhelming. That is, just solve it in the first couple seasons and that's it. Other series have managed to solve this problem by periodically changing the arc, usually after every season. Like Wiseguy or The Wire. Thing is with a concept like Lost, what could you do? One thing I think the writers are missing is that they could stop teasing and tell us and the characters what's really going on. That wouldn't mean the end of it. They'd still be stranded and they'd still have plenty to do. That is whether getting off the island is still a priority or whether helping/stopping Hanso is a bigger one. The tease is definately getting a little old particularly the number of times characters have had the opportunity to get some answers (ie: While Jack was sitting in the catbird seat). |

I've been taking a bit of a break and playing heads-up SNG's. I used to play them occaisionally back in my SNG days (started out as a SNG player) and decided to dip my toes back in because of daladiesman's posts.
I'm killing them, though with a small sample (3 out of 5 at the $10 level, 4 out of 4 at the $20 level). Thing is, I don't know how viable they really are. The regular ones seem to average about 20 mins, the Turbo are much better at around half that. However, the inability to multi-table them is a big problem. Also there's the matter of rakeback. It'd be very, very hard to maintain Supernova status playing HU SNG's. And even on Stars, I'm not sure how much action there is above the $20 level. The other big problem is that HU is so, so tilt-sensitive. It's a fine balance between raw aggression and patience. If you start to go either way, too aggro or too passive you quickly loose your edge. And it's possible to get really frustrated with these things. Either when you take a big lead but can't close, or when you take a couple bad beats in a row. Unfortunately, Stars doesn't have head's up cash games. I think that'd be the next best thing to free money. Funny though because they have the option in their table filter. There's just no tables. I started thinking about ways to multi-table... My appraoch to these things is to use Level 1 to figure out your opponent's style (usually either calling station or LAG, occaisionally simply weak-tight) and then play the counter-style that destroys them (usually either value betting or trapping). So what I thought might work would be to stack tables by opponent type. So, start a match, get opponent pigeon-holed. If he's a LAG, move him to one corner of the screen. If he's a calling station, move him to another. Start the next SNG. Stack the new guy appropriately. Then play the stacks as if they're all the same opponent. The big achilles heel is spotting if someone changes gears but I don't think that's a huge concern at $10/$20 level. The money's there, you just have to play enough tables... $22+1 @ 60% win = $3.4/SNG $22+1 @ 65% win = $5.6/SNG $22+1 @ 70% win = $7.8/SNG $33+1.5 @ 60% win = $5.10/SNG $33+1.5 @ 65% win = $8.4/SNG $33+1.5 @ 70% win = $11.7/SNG I just dunno if it's possible to play enough tables for it to be anything more than a diversion. Can't really see switching over full time, but might be a nice change of pace once or twice a week.... Maybe I'll wander over to the HU forum and see what's what... |

Hey, at least he made the river easy for you...
Yeah, HU is a real exercise in tilt management. I dunno how many times I got up $2K to $1K and then we're stuck there forever and I'm like c'mon, c'mon, let's end this already. If nothing else, it might be really good for discipline. Shrug. There's a thread over in the HU forum where the consensus is that most are 1-tableing while Sponger is about the only one doing 3 or 4. I dunno, if I could manage 3 it might be worth trying. I think I'm going to try the 30's for a bit and see how the competition is. It's been real soft at the $10's and $20's but I expect I haven't run into any real regulars yet. |

It seems the things are so flow driven that multi-tabling them would have to take some real practice and memory skills.
I consider myself a fairly good HU player, but never have I been able to keep that success going when I start adding in more than 1 table. |
