Unfortunately that's exactly what they'll do. Hopefully it will be offset by the influx of new players though. [/ QUOTE ] These online rooms are making A TON of money. You figure they collect a bunch of rake and likely have very little overhead. IMO they should be willing to pick up the majority of the tab. Especially when you consider that traffic at their sites would surely increase once this happens. And we're still going to have sites competing with each other for our business. Which means lots of promos hopefully. |

Also think of all the online poker rooms that would pop up:
You can bet there will be Bellagio online poker and all the others. Harrah's will probably set up the official WSOP online site. Still a long ways away, but I'm definitely looking for poker's second boom. |

[ QUOTE ] How are they going to tax Gibralter based companies, for example? [/ QUOTE ] My best guess is that we won't be able to play at Gibralter-based sites unless they open a branch in the United States. [/ QUOTE ] Surely thats against free trade treties? The US govenment can't stop you using a service from a foreign company that a US company could legally provide, can they? I would have thought on tax on individuals makes more sense to me. |

The U.S. doesn't really care about free trade obviously. [ QUOTE ] I would have thought on tax on individuals makes more sense to me. [/ QUOTE ] Individuals who make money gambling are already supposed to be paying taxes. |

Think about it this way: B&M casinos pay taxes, or any other business for that matter. When you go and play blackjack at The Wynn, do they tax you after your session? Nope.

I'm surprised there's not more action in the legislation forum about this right now. I haven't been in there since the ban, but if this actually has any chance of passing I figured there'd be a firestorm in there. When should we know if this passes?

I'm not sure what your equity is in the hand but it's pretty obvious I have a set here. $45.50 in the pot when the action comes back to you and it's $91.40 for you to call. Not sure what calculator you're using, but the pot's not laying you 2:1. It's actually more like 1/2:1. [/ QUOTE ] Just a nit poker stat note: it's impossible to get less than 1:1. If you make it $1 million from the SB, it's a $1,000,001 pot with $1,000,000 to call for me from the BB, which is ever so slightly more than 1:1. (which of course I snap call with 89s because - come on - it's SUITED AND CONNECTED) |

Also think what new players it will draw in when they are allowed to legally advertise real money games in the USA. Also you will have the likes of Mirage, MGM, Harrah's, Bicycle, etc entering the market with names that people know and trust that will really spur a resurgance of poker players to the game IMO.

Probably just waiting for the legal ok. I did have a link that described this in more detail but I don't have it anymore. I will see if I can find it and share it. |
