i have no problem with loose foul rules, i'm all for a really physical game.

[/ QUOTE ]

this is correct. if you play playground ball expect a physical game. if you want a ref to bail you out join an athletic club or play IM or something. in pickup ball you should be able to make baskets with a reasonable amount of contact. conversely, on defense you should be able to stop the ballhandler without fouling.

if you experience a terrible player who just fouls you every possesion you should yell at him and tell him to back off or next possesion his nose will be broken with your elbow. this is how playground ball is played.

i like playing w/ shots worth more from behind the arc, it rewards good shooters, who, as it turns out, are good scorers.

play to 11 by ones and twos, or whoever gets to 15 first if nobody wins by two at 11.

call your own fouls, but don't be a pu$$y. you bring it into the paint you should be able to handle some contact. i rarely call fouls unless i really get smacked or if my team needs a point. ALSO, if you call a foul you don't count the basket, you take the ball to the top of the key and check it.

no back court. anyone who calls back court in a playground game deserves to be smacked around.

and another thing, everybody should get the ball at some point, but if you are a terrible shooter/ball handler, give the ball to someone else who can and go set a pick. this always pisses me off.

whats the verdict on choosing squads? team captains OR first 5 to make a free throw?

[/ QUOTE ]

This is almost exactly the same as here at Cal Poly, except:
- everything is one point, no twos
- if you call a foul and make the basket, the basket counts and game continues normally

Selection is first 5 to make a free throw when a new game starts, and people waiting to play form teams of 5 by who was there first.

[/ QUOTE ]

those games were pretty good at the rec center a few years ago. there would always be the 'main game' with a good amount of solid players on one court. On the other was usually an 'asian game' with an average height based on the following formula:
Average IQ / 4 = average height in inches.

I loved playing in that game because I am 6'3 and they would cower an whisper to each other 'pass it to godzilla'.

On a court with no 3-line, it's 1s to 11.

On a court with a 3-line, it's 2s and 3s to 21.

1s and 2s is retarded, I bet guys are passing up 5 footers to throw it outside and the donks miss, making every game take twice as long as it should.

No charging calls, no and 1s, no 3 seconds, make it take it if it's half court.

i,

"I mean guys basicaly just pull you down as soon as you touch the ball with in the 3 point line and look like driving or posting,"

Some dude just pulls you down like that, you get in his face and give him a good shove the first time, then punch him in the face the second time. What's the issue here?

Yeah, we play short full court at our gym, so the three point line on the baselines is pinched in to almost free throw distance. And yet there are days when 1s and 2s are played, usually that's an older crowd. Those games are played to 15, win by two (our regular games are straight up to 11 all 1s).

It pisses me off that I grind out a single point underneath but the spot shooters get twice as many points for a fairly short shot.

Also, I can't believe people play games to five. Five!

It varies wildly by region. In the north Bronx we played to 32 by 2 with 3s, winners. In the South Bronx we played to 16 by 1s with no 2s, winners. In Manhattan and Riverdale we played to 11 by 1s with no 2s, losers. In Wisconsin it seems to be to 11 or 15 by 1s with 2s, losers. And it varies even within those regions.

Only pussies call many fouls in streetball, if it's blatant and continuous, you get in their face, if it keeps on, you fight about it. If they completely get you across the arm or shove you, you can call the foul but you can't take the basket, that has been standard everywhere I've played. And yes, you call your own fouls obviously, though most calls will often end in an argument.

Try playing at Orchard Beach in New York. As close to prison rules as you can get outside of prison. Elbows, shoulders and fists everywhere. You are swarmed whenever you get the ball, and if you go in the lane and weigh less than 250, you will end up on your ass every single time. Anyone who calls foul is laughed off the court. One of the most fun games I've played in.

lol, yeah, it's still pretty much the same way. It's pretty funny when there's like 15 people lined up to play in the solid game on the left court, and everyone's content to wait half an hour instead of jumping right into the midget game on the other court. I'm 6'2" with no post game, so that game's fun on occasion but I certainly don't get any better playing in games where I'm the tallest person on the floor.

Over winter break, my friends and I played some pickup games at a local college gym. One of my friends actually called a charge on the guy he was guarding. Is this the craziest thing to ever happen in basketball history?
