Yes we love our frivoluous forum, but honestly, 2+2 is supposed to be about cards, after all. Maybe I agree with AG on some level after all.

I think a major part of the reason that you can have largely on-topic discussions in most of the strategy forums is that there is a place that people can go to post stupid [censored] here. I think OOT and similar non-strategy forums serve a valuable purpose for the strategy forums in this way.

huh? the only forums i regularly read are oot, nvg, and the mod forum. i occasionally look at beats, brags, & variance, and some other forums once in a blue moon. i haven't really read or posted in any strat forums for a long time.

do understand that a *LOT* of valued strat posters probably wouldn't be here if they couldn't relax in oot. and even if they don't participate in them anymore, like me, they're at least still around so the possibility is greater.

So, the idea it to separate high-minded film and television and music discussions from the peepee and poopoo threads? I get that, actually. I don't agree with it, but I get it.

yes.

What I like most about OOT is the mix of different approaches and ideas. If OOT was made up of ONLY help-me-get-laid threads and such, I think that many higher-minded posters wouldn't even visit, and that would suck.

[/ QUOTE ]

Probably not.

[ QUOTE ]
Also, anyone saying there's something wrong with OOT and that it's full of neanderthal idiots has obviously never visited the politics forum.

[/ QUOTE ]

Never been there.

I'm sure OOT wasn't in the 2+2 business plan.

I'm against anything you think is a good idea.

it isn't my idea, you hypersensitive morons. i'm just trying to solicit input instead of having mods make unilateral decisions on users' behalf.

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL...easy, Sparky. It's just a small dig.

..."hypersensitive morons." I like that. While I've never thought you were a moron, hypersensitive definitely seems like a great description for you. So...pot, kettle, black.

Okay, I just want to make a point, again. I used to post the most film reviews here (I think 26-28 in January)

I got tired of them getting buried, so just cut back: what was the point?

Today, I posted one about Kingpin. It had some responses, and then had none for nearly 6 hours. I bumped it, and it got a lot more responses.

IT GOT BURIED REALLY QUICKLY.

You could point out that I posted it at a god-awful time. But I can tell you from experience, if you post them at a busy time, THEY GET IMMEDIATELY BURIED, UNLESS IT'S A MOVIE LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE SEEN.

I hang around OOT a lot, and I'm tired to trying to do entertainment stuff, just to see it washed away. I'm tired of hearing whines about 'I don't come here to read film reviews' or suchlike.

Does anyone see my point here?

Second point: We're debating about people who don't come into OOT - these are by definition completely unrepresented here. Don't make tons of assumptions. It's best THEY get asked about this too, somehow.

Are you saying that the more thoughtful posters wouldn't stop posting in an all-juvenile-all-the-time OOT, or that it wouldn't suck if that were the case?

I contend that somebody who wants to discuss music or TV or the legitimate theater but doesn't want to degrade themselves by visiting OOT is taking themselves and OOT significantly too seriously.

What I don't like about a split is the inevitable corollary -- A&E discussions would be banned in OOT. I don't think OOT in spirit is really about specific topics, but it's treated like that. So when you say "No A&E talk in OOT", "No Science or Philosophy in OOT", "No P*ker", "No Sports" -- To me that's just stupid. It's possible to know which forum is which and choose OOT for a thread. I understand why you don't want the threads clogging the forum but a hard and fast rule is autistic.

That's my 2 cents, I know most people and most moderators disagree.
