After a dealer picked up my QQ I started using a chip to protect them.

I thought most card rooms don't let you do this? How do the other players know you're in the hand if your cards aren't on the table in front of you?

They are in front of me. Right next to my chips in easy view of the table. They're just actually in my hand, face down.

You're not supposed to take them off the table.
