Let me just second what a previous poster said about the celebrating being completely out of control. It's one thing to jump out of your seat and pump your fist, but this whole running over to the crowd thing and hugging people is embarassing. It's bad enough when the amateurs do it but I think the professionals should show a little more, uh, professionalism.

Agreed. The best way to celebrate is to act like it's no big deal - you've been there before and will be there again.

The one thing that really stood out to me about this episode, in relation to the previous seasons, was the amount of times people got up and walked away from (or around) the table during a hand...
I mean, you expect to see people walking away from the table while celebrating, or after a bad beat. But these guys were making their bets, and leaving the table while their opponent was contemplating his next action. I don't see how this can be a positive thing. First, it doesn't seem very smart, as you'll inevitably be giving something away, the more you move around in view of your opponent while he's staring you down. Second, it seems like a very shady thing to do to try and distract your opponent, or worse to try to get away from his stare. I mean, the Unabomber's shell is bad enough, but now people are okay with just leaving the room? What's to stop these guys from just getting up and walking over to a corner and staring at the wall, or worse yet going behind the curtain near the stage? How can that be fair? I think they should have some kind of boundary around the final table, like velvet ropes or something, that the players are not allowed to leave. Go ahead and celebrate by yourself, or stand up while someone is all in, or even take a walk around the table while thinking... but don't go 50+ feet away and make a big production out of everything. Far too much "Hollywood", even from the calmer players. Anytime the cameraman has to follow you around, you're probably moving too far away from the table. |

Good points MTU. Poker is a game that is played at a table. As such players should not be allowed to walk all over the building in the middle of a hand. As you said, a guy could conceivably go stand in the corner and stare at the wall after every move to prevent his opponent(s) from picking up tells on him. How is that fair?

My thoughts...
Ted is a pimp and played great. The celebrating is too much (as usual), but I loved Ted going over to Gavin to hi five with his crew. Could you be more gracious in defeat? Ted should teach classes on how a poker player should act, win or lose. Chris Bell is a class act and handled himself great in the face of some serious bad luck (excluding the 7 on the river) The girl in the audience was Ted's girlfriend not his daughter.....how can the WPT not confirm this stuff before they make it part of the poker archive.....just say nothing if you are not sure, jeez. Gene Todd, well, he has to be better in real life because the players talked to him and seemed to like him, but on TV he was the WORST individual character I have ever seen in poker. Kido Pham has crazy cojones, but a bit too crazy. That is all. Cheers. J. |

[/ QUOTE ] Strange... you're sure it was his girlfriend? I mean, they seemed pretty confident that it was his daughter. If I remember correctly they even flashed up a graphic stating that. Of course, when I guy has a mustache like that, you probably just assume that he couldn't have a girlfriend, and any female there with him must be related to him. [/ QUOTE ] Celebrating when you suck out is like "Yes, I got my money in with the worst hand! I'm lucky!" You want to celebrate? Celebrate when you snap off a bluff, make a close call that's the correct decision etc., a la Forrest. |

After watching that show I wished Gavin wouldn't have gone around giving high 5's after the 3 outer. I still think Gavin is a great guy. [/ QUOTE ] I think it is OK to celebrate a bit after you get outflopped and catch on the river. |

100% sure that was his girlfriend.
Last year they said that Layne F. had two daughters in the audience in Aruba and showed a picture, but the problem is that Layne only has one. Lucky guess by the WPT that one of the girls shown was his daughter, but in this case.... not Ted's daughter at all. cheers. J. |
