call me a bit ignorant, but i'm a bit hazy on the whole bonds thing. was it actually 100% proven that he did roids? or is all the roids talk based on testimony? and how much does this new book prove his taking roids?
i guess what i'm asking is, what's known for sure in the whole case, and why does this new book carry so much authority when we've been saying all along anyway that he's been doing roids. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] If steroids were available to this magnitude fifty years ago, we'd have had the same problem with them with some of the most famous names in history. [/ QUOTE ] cmon Jack. cheaters cheat. a stand-up guy back then would not have used roids, just as stand-up guys now don't. [/ QUOTE ] My guess is, if we had a urine sample from all of the players that played during the 50's and 60's, a much higher % would test positive for steroids than you think. Whoever said poor Roger Maris, he lost his homerun record to a guy that took steroids, I've got some news for you. It is was rumored at the time that Maris broke the record that he took steroids. It didn't get as much press because, much like in 1988 when Canseco was rumored to juice steroids was not a hot button issue. By your method, how on earth would you know who is a stand up guy? You just think the guys from the 50's and 60's are more stand up because there wasn't as much media to vilify them. If anything, I'd say the player of today is much more "stand up" than the players of yesteryear simply because they have to be. [/ QUOTE ] There is substanstial evidence that Barry Bonds went to obscene lengths to cheat. to assume that "many famous guys from back in the day" would have done the same, as Jack did, is riduculous. 1. b/c you don't know if they would have, and you can't presume guilt 2. b/c it doesn't matter if they did or didn't cheat. it doesn't make what Barry Bonds did any better or worse. either way, he's a scumbag. also, he's a racist [censored], and it makes me happy to see all the hate he is getting |

The fact that so many people have chimed in with how they still love barry makes me hate him even more.
Did Tony Gwynn use steroids? NO! |

What I find most interesting is that according to the article Bonds started to juice it up hardcore because he realized that "chicks dig the long ball" and he's a racist.
What better reasons do you need to start roids, human growth hormone and who knows what else? Well, at least we know that baseball players can be as much attention whores as supermodels. |

This isn't about Bonds. This is about the ultra-competitive nature of sports, especially when you're talking about the top guys. It's very hard to make it to the top of a sport without being very competitive. At that point you're either cheating (bonds, mcgwire, sosa) or gambling (rose, jordan, gretzky). |

The handling of steroids and the Expos/Nats is a HUGE black mark on Bud Selig, regardless of how people feel about the All-Star Game and Wild Card stuff. |

"he's a hack."
Not sure what "hack" means here. If it means he's not a good player, he was a helluva player before 'roids. If it means he's a jerk, I agree. |
