See, we're just using basic stats here, and you think that Player X is worthy of being a starter? Or do you think he deserves a spot as the very last guy on the bench?
Player X is absolutely atrocious. |

he is better than casey blake. and probably better than the worst player on nearly all teams. so yes, he will help most team. [/ QUOTE ] But he's not better than Posada, which is what you are saying. Look at it this way. If Melky Cabrera hit clean up for NY, don't you think he would have 100 RBI's? Does that make him a better hitter? |

i just said i think vmart had a better yr than posada bc he hit more homers, had more rbis and less strikeouts.
then the whole stat goon squad started quoting the dvopq, jjurls, griols, rosko, bbak, and all kinds of other imaginary stats. |

Victor,
Are you good at NL? Not an insult serious question. Striking out a lot isn't that bad. Productive outs basically cancel out with GIDP. HR's is a fine stat, but it doesn't correlate that well with value. What is better 50hrs or 100 doubles? Obviously an extreme point, but you get my point. RBIs are largely based on other factors namely short term variance, and opportunities to get RBIs. VORP: They measure how valuable a player is compared to an average MLB backup at that position. They measure runs based on how many runs are expected based on OBP and SLG. |

I'll show you why Posada had a better year than VMart without using stats you don't like.
Victor Martinez .301 BA .374 OBP .505 SLG Jorge Posada .338 BA .426 OBP .543 SLG 3 basic stats. All in Posada's favor. He hit the ball better, he got on base more, and he hit for more power. |
