Does this cause ND fans to bat an eye? Nope; this is rebuilding year, so once Ty's Guys are purged, Charlie can finally get down to winning national championships every year. Despite the fact he hasn't been there in three years, Ty is obviously at fault when Notre Dame players fail at basic football competency things like "snapping the football" and "blocking defenders". It went the same way last season too. Before various big games ND was about to play, various posters here, on ND boards and blogs claimed in unison: "Charlie will have the troops ready to play! He'll have an NFL gameplan ready that college teams won't be able to defend." After getting blown out in said games, that narrative was unsurprisingly: "Ty's recruits let Charlie down." Charlie is one of those special coaches who will always have the troops ready to play... until they lose, in which case they were doomed from the start due to Ty's uncoachable recruits. When you read this: Ty Willingham Fact Sheet ...it's hilarious how many of these arguments for firing Willingham apply aptly to Weis. But in ND's fans minds, this is completely meaningless. Getting blown out 5 games in a row just means that "Returning to Glory" will have to wait a couple of more years. Weis will get the troops ready by 2011, no worries. It's going to be comical watching ND fans strain for excuses once the last vestiges of Willingham's classes are gone, and Weis's signature accomplishments still only include a narrow loss to USC at home, beating a 7-5 Michigan team, and winning the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy numerous times. Not to play the race card, but I have heard that some big boosters at UW don't like Ty simply for that reason regardless of the fact that he's turning the program around. A bud of mine was doing work for one and talking about UW football and was taken aback when the guy made a statement regarding that. Can be hard to believe, but some of these well to do, seemingly well educated people, are still idiots when it comes to race. b

Just a thought or two from a Michigan man to ND fans. Since I've been old enough to follow college football, the best ND teams were 88-89 and 93. What do those teams have in common vs recent ND teams? An athletic quarterback. Rice and MacDougal didn't play in the NFL, but they were extremely effective at ND, especially Rice. Ever since, ND has gone to a more traditional offense with standard drop back passers. My advice to ND: find a mobile QB. If nothing else, it almost guarantees a win over UM.
It is astonishing to think of the talent dropoff from 20 years ago to now. Aren't athletes supposed to be getting bigger, stronger, and faster? Not at ND. Those teams in the late 80's were so loaded, it was ridiculous. Is there one ND player now who could start on those teams?

[/ QUOTE ] True, but I was specifically referring to ND. In that great stretch from 88-93, ND had sick talent throughout the 2-deep. Rice, Zorich, Lyght, Bettis, Ismael, Waters, Brown, etc...Now they have a MAC team. If there is hope for ND fans, USC and Oklahoma went through some down years and bounced back nicely. No reason ND can't.
