Anyone else hate limit?

A) Many don't count the pot down to even know what's actually in the pot. However, I do agree with this for good players at N/L. But definitely not most.

B) Many like HU pots because they are more concerned with winning pots than playing well. Hence the 'protecting hands' arguments I hear at the limit tables.

C) I'd rather bust a fish over many hands as that will usually garner more cash from him in the long run.

That said, N/L is much different from limit. But I see alot of players going to N/L for the wrong reasons.

I should of said most winning NL players. You are absolutely right. There are many, many NL donkeys out there.

However, I think you inturpret the purpose of my post as to argue that NL > Limit. This is not the case. I was saying there are plenty of winning NL players that do not like limit for the above reasons. And the poster should not make the generization that anyone who hates limit is a losing player.

I have nothing but respect for winning limit players, and the game of LEHE.

Yes, I hate limit. First, and foremost, I started with NL, and I absolutely DESPISE not being able to protect my hand in limit poker. I love the whole scene where I flop a straight and some guy with a middle pair catches a runner-runner flush or some other awesomely bad beat. That stuff never happens in NL unless the drawer pays through the nose.

This whole thing about not wanting to lose big money in one hand: True, but if you're a good player, you put your moiney in with the best hand, and just sit back and relax. The result does not matter because when you get your stack in with the best hand over time, you win. This is certainly true of limit, as well, but in limit you are usually having to dodge severa other people, where in NL you can get heads up quick.

Also, some of the discussion about NL fading out of the picture is just so awesomely wrong. I mean, it may not be at the height it is now, but just almost disappearing? No way.

I play a lot of NL right now because the games are good and I like the lower variance. That being said, I actually think limit poker, especially short-handed, is a lot of fun. When the NL games dry up I won't be bummed to have to switch back. Though, like others have mentioned, it is nice booking so many winning sessions.

However the variance in NL games, especially short-handed NL games, is becoming greater as the players become more aggressive. I've seen some 5/10 and 10/20 NL graphs that look like similar to shorthanded LHE graphs. I think the main difference is that you have more of a choice of how much variance you want to experience. I play a higher variance style and have greater swings playing NL then many players do.

Also, that whole "protecting your hand" stuff is [censored]. If you flop a straight and they call down with middle pair thank your lucky stars.

If you like them calling you down with runner runner draws, you can play NL and make minimum bets to keep people in.

If you played hands like that at the NL table, you would be thanking your lucky stars all day.

Hence, there are several more profitable plays in Limit than NL. Big woop if someone sucks out on that runner runner flush. They pulled of a 5% miracle, I will be stacking there chips the other 95% of the time.

I love it when I bet 2x the pot into some moron calling me with nothing but a flush draw. I hope he calls me every time, because be rest assured he isn't getting my money when he hits, and I am getting all of his when he misses. This is "protecting" you hand, one of several mirages of poker.
