thanks for the reply. the reason why I refrain from just going to cyber cafe is that usually there is always some risk of getting hacked if you play poker on those computers. it's not like i'll be playing whole lot of poker while I'm travelling but it feels nice to make money while you are travelling time to time [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
anyways thanks for the help. p.s) do you mind posting approx how much your backpack weighted/contents? |

Where's your next trip going? (I've never met a traveler that didn't have a next trip lined up somewhere.)
What places in Bolivia would you recommend? I spent almost three months there a while ago, and I'm going back next month. Wondering whether there's any places I missed. I'll also be visiting Argentina and Peru again. I'm very tempted to hijack this thread and give my own answers, but I'll leave the floor to you. |

Places in Bolivia: Well, I enjoyed everything on the "gringo trail", as they say (Chile-Uyuni, Potosi, Sucre, Oruro, La Paz, Rrrue, etc)... but we also went from a little town called Puerto something another.. I can't remember the name (it's about 3 - 5 hours east of Cochabamba and it starts with a "V") anyway, from there we hitched a ride on a boat up river to trinidad that ended up taking over a week because of ridiculous circumstances (it was supposed to be 3 days).. then bussed west towards Rrurre.. stopped at a Nature reserve about halfway.. I can't, for the life of me, remember the name... pretty cool though.. were definitley were the only people there... some sweet [censored]. In Argentina: the town of El Bolson doesn't have much to offer (there are some pretty hikes, but nothing spectacular) except for an awesome farmers market every second day... unreal food there... I know that doesn't sound like something you'd go to a town for... but really, it's sooo delicious... we stayed a week there, hiked around and ate at that farmers market whenever we could. In Peru: Northern Peru town of Mancara.. surfing town, awesome.. best beach I saw on the west coast of South America. Cool feel. We really wanted to go to Noel Kamph National Park, but decided we didn't have the time/money. Next trip: Capetown - Istanbul overland Istanbul - Bombay (or further) overland (either through Central Asia (the Stan's) or Iran - Pakistan)... but this won't happen for awhile as i'm "stuck" running a awesome company here that will make me lots of dinero... but, I still get to travel for the job, just not the same. Going to Argentina in Feb. to drink wine for three week. Pretty sweet. |

[/ QUOTE ] Fair enough about the hacking... it also might be a problem with IP address's and so on (freezing of accounts). Anyway, I understand that it's nice to make money while you travel.. but really, getting on your laptop and playing in most countries outside of Norht America/europe isn't going to be very easy, adn then having to worry about your laptop the whole time... it seems like its not worht the risk. My backpack was ridiculous when I left.. weighing 20KG with WAY to much [censored]... when I came home it was around 10KG.... the biggest weight it books that I pick up along the way that I want to read... umm... truthfully, the less stuff the better... the only think I had a fair amount of was boxers, because I hate wearing dirty undies after I shower/wash... just can't get myself to do it. Anyway, besides that (after I downgraded significantly), I had my sandals and a pair of shoes that I could wear/hike in. One pair of pants (this really depends where you're going... i only wore my pants in Tibet and Turkey on my last trip and was gone a year!)... a 6 -7 light shirts maybe.. some T's.. some button up.. some wife beaters, 3-4 pairs of shorts (again, really matters where you're going).... one sweatshirt/hoody.. When I was in Tibet I just bought warm jackets there instead of lugging it around with me for x months just for those couple of weeks I needed it... you can always find cheap clothes that suit the climate everywhere you go.... (I bought a gortex, north face jacket in Lhasa for approx. 25 bucks.... whilte it's a knockoff, it's still waterproff and says "North Face").... anyway, I don't know.. the less the better... |

You said you always wore shorts. You didn't feel the need to wear long pants hiking/sightseeing through S.A. for some protection?

Cheap flights from Chennai/Bangalore to Singapore/KL though... try jetstar. I came into India from Nepal (from Tibet) overland and was going to go into Bangladesh, but decided to [censored] it and follow a girl to Indonesia... Clubbing? Truthfully, not a whole lot of "clubbing" was had on my last trip, but did do a whole lot of partying, which lots of the time included dancing... I would say that there are only a handful of places that i've been in Asia where nice clothes for clubs would have been useful... Bombay, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Istanbul and Singapore. And even then, we still partied pretty [censored] hard, just didn't go into the super clubs or whatever... didn't really have a whole lot of money for that anyway. Travelling by yourself is the best. You meet so many more people that way, mostly because there's nothing other to do and you HAVE to meet people, while if yoiur'e with another person, you can go to a hostel and just hang out with yourselves... Do it! |

[/ QUOTE ] Sorry, I was more talking about my last trip because it was more fresh in my mind. In the Andes in South America I wore pants at night, because it was their winter and could get cold... but even then I think I had two pairs? I don't know... I still wore shorts the vast majority of the time. |
