being "pro-gambling" isn't a very defensible for a politician, especially since the rake is getting siphoned off into other countries' economies. i think the reasonable suggestion is for them to ask before voting on the floor about what effects might be felt in terms of relations/economy if the wto imposes sanctions in response to the usa knowingly violating its ruling. saying, "i'm a gambler and i like to gamble!!" isn't much of a sell imho. [/ QUOTE ] You might want to make this a pro-civil liberties, or something to that affect, the pinkos really eat that kind of stuff up. jk, but I think more senators would be "pro-civil liberties" than pro-gambling as astro said. |

Just emailed congressman William Jefferson of New Orleans. I'm sure the final tally of letters he receives on this issue will be 1-0 in our favor.

I really don't see how this has any real chance of passing, if for no other reason than Party, Stars, etc. have very deep pockets and will be doing everything possible to assure this bill fails, as it would be disasterous for their respective businesses.
Where do the B&M casinos stand on the bill? I think the effect on B&M's might be somewhat complicated, as they would definitely face less competition from other gambling outlets, but at the same time, passage of the bill would certainly damage interest in gambling in general, and reduce the number of young B&M customers due to the fact that it would be more difficult for players under 21 to develop an interest in gambling. I think the only danger of the bill actually passing is if the B&M casinos (assuming they support the bill) form what would essentially be a bizarre coalition with right-wing special interests to offset what is sure to be massive spending by the poker sites. This is all fine and good. However, it almost seems to me that anyone sending a message to their representatives in Congress is effectively putting himself on a list of people interested in getting the smack laid down on them if/when they decide to crack down on online gambling. [/ QUOTE ] I'll make the point again in this thread. I don't see you emailing your rep having any reprucussions on the individual. They likely just tally the pro and against votes and don't care who it is from. And you can always just send anonymously or with a fake name if you are really that concerned. Also, if this bill goes through then it isn't going to matter for us anyhow as it is not really going to be very profitable to play b/c all the recreational fish will quit and take up bingo. |

Does anyone know what the major online sites are doing about this? PartyPoker? PokerStars? Even Full Tilt? These are the guys with money and that is what sways Congress. If the U.S. stops online gambling then online gambling is in ruins. No way around it. What about the WSOP? They should be definitely interested in this as the majority of the prize pool/rake comes from online players.
Im really starting to get concerned about this. edit: Also, does anyone with experience in politics know if e-mails even work with a politician? I had a professor that is also a practicing lawyer that always said to actually write a letter to them if you want to get a point across. |
