[ QUOTE ]
It amazes me how many people seem to embrace the fact that they aren't intelligent. Most of the people on facebook have "wut iz a book" or something similar listed as Favorite Books. [/ QUOTE ] I don't see how this makes them dumb. You don't think they actually think "what" is spelt "wut" do you? |

[ QUOTE ]
The topic of gambling brings out the worst in people when it comes to thinking they are intelligent when in reality they know nothing. "I win every time I got to the casino," "I have a system for XXXX" "I rarely lose" "Sometimes you gotta just call with any 2" "I had pot odds" "I win at slot machines" [/ QUOTE ] Except that the strange thing about such comments is that I have also heard them from some people who I would otherwise consider to be relatively intelligent. In the very least, some of the people who I have heard this from would certainly score 120 or higher on an IQ test imo. That's what really boggles my mind. Also, I am probably so-so in smarts who doesn't consider himself to be very smart. Don't get me wrong. I know I'm smarter than your typical live-poker doofus saying something really ridiculous about poker or life in general. But just because so many around me are total idiots isn't enough for me to consider myself smart. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] El Diablo, I think dumb people who take pride in being dumb are even more annoying. [/ QUOTE ] Southerners? [/ QUOTE ] Ever been to New Jersey, Long Island, or South Boston? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, but I was referring specifically to people that use the phrase "aww shucks". [/ QUOTE ] So you fit into the category that got this whole thread started I take it. |

[ QUOTE ]
Alobar, You are probably right, but f it, it's fun to rip on stupid people who are being a-holes. [/ QUOTE ] i think at least it might train them not to pretend they're smart around YOU, which is a start. let them foist their inflated notions of their own intelligence on someone else. also, Noah, i am from a little town in North Carolina called **, keep it up and you can come down for a visit. |

[/ QUOTE ] I don't see how this makes them dumb. You don't think they actually think "what" is spelt "wut" do you? [/ QUOTE ] It's the attitude that's the problem. These people genuinely don't read and don't ever plan on it, and just because they are aware of that doesn't make it better. In fact, it makes it worse, because they could change if they wanted to. You can make fun of yourself for little things, or things you can't change, but abandoning reading is too big for that. Acknowledging that it's true, and not doing anything about it, that's the tragedy. |

All,
I grew up, and still live in, the south. I don't consider myself a genius, but am pretty sure I'm smarter than XXXNoahXXX. |
