[ QUOTE ] Many of us believe that no-limit is a game of implied odds [/ QUOTE ] Sorry to be blunt, but if you believe this you're being ridiculous. The game is the game. The rules are the rules. Poker is about adjusting your game to maximize EV given each particular situation. If you don't know how to adjust your game to players with smaller stacks then that's your own shortcoming. Don't go whining to Stars to change the rules to eliminate situations that you don't know how to deal with. [/ QUOTE ] hock if you're ever in vegas i'll buy you a drink could'nt have said it better myself |

Indeed Hock said it best.
clubchamp - In LA this low buy-in stuff is apparently common. Also pretty low caps in many of the Vegas rooms too. In Tunica, Miss where I play the 2/5 NL games have no cap on the buy-in. $200 minimum at the Horseshoe, think it's still $100 at the Grand. But lots of players buy-in for $1k-$3k or more even. Somebody else in a different thread mentioned that in most AC rooms the min buy-in is 60BB's. Interesting since when you go west to LA or LV the max buyin can sometimes be as low as 40BB's. So obviously this stuff tends to vary by region. |

You guys should concentrate on leaving and buying back in with less, not the minimum buy-in. You should go for the ElD suggestion of buying in for what you left at another table within a certain period of time, or just raise the time period you can buy back in for the minimum to 4, 6, 12 hours or something like that. Imagine the deep stacked poker you could play if you could buy back in deep hours later.... [/ QUOTE ] I think the "highest same stakes stack" rule is too complicated, and the times for the 2nd idea would have to be drastically higher to change anything. |

Tried this before, but I am pro upping min buyin. Min buyin clowns ruin games, do not keep action going. Bad for business, bad for people that enjoy poker.

I have no problem myself with people buying in for 20bbs because they like playing a short stack strategy or they are just taking a shot. I do have a problem with a person that doubles up and leaves and makes this way of playing a habit. This is what kills games and makes them less fun and I only play for the fun of the game and to gambol. Say if I am playing a home game with some friends and someone does this hitnrun stategy like fatalerror does I can garuntee u that he will not only not be invited to play with us he will be kicked out of the game cuz that style of playing is completely inconsiderate and that is just a VERY NICE way to put it. Poker is a game, a game that u play with other people and I feel that using this hit n run strategy is not the way to keep this game fun and keep it a game for everyone that is playing. For that reason I think there should be a change in the min buy in or the time to buy back in to the game.

[ QUOTE ]
I normally play a 80/3/.5 style. I like to limp in and see what the flop brings. I dont mind playing against passive players because I dont have to change my strategy. But then someone comes to my table, he was raising FIFTEEN PERCENT OF HIS HANDS. I even saw him raise 22 once! How can that be a good play? Do you see what is happening here? This kind of player is RUINING the game because they make a loose raising preflop strategy right and a limping strategy wrong! No limit is a game of flops. The increasing number of preflop raises is hurting the games. Pokerstars: Please limit the number of times someone can raise preflop. [/ QUOTE ] This really made me laugh. Of course you know you are comparing apples and oranges of course, but what you said was very funny nonetheless. |

It would be great if there were some table that had a minimum buy-in of 100BBs, then people who want to play without shorties can do so to their hearts content....
....maybe they would even stop whining all the time as well |
