Who else is surprised by the fact that several southern states actually outlawed marriages between cousins? For some reason, I more expected a map similar to a "red state/blue state" divide.

Their kids are cousins through both their mom's side and their dad's side. You get twice the relationship as normal cousins. If the two pairs of siblings happened to both be twins, the (double) cousins would be as genetically related as brother/sister.
