I don't know but who would want to have money with any company who won't answer phone calls or return emails? Not me.

Do we live in Putin's Russia, China, North Korea, or the god damn frickin' United States of America. Don't worry, Big Brother will let you know, someday, if your funds have been confiscated or not for "illegal gambling activities."

They answer phone calls. I had a pending EFT and called to have it canceled so I could do a p2p last weekend. They canceled it no problem. I asked if I was not going to get the ATM card I requested. They then told me that yes, I should get it in a few days and it should work, so I didn't do the p2p.

Week goes by, no card. I e-mail them about it Friday. Today I get this response:

"Thank you for your enquiry.

The Gold NETELLER Card is not available as a withdrawal option at this time.

Our ability to provide US members with withdrawals is significantly reduced. We assure you that restoring withdrawal options for you is our top priority. In the meantime, your funds continue to be safely maintained in trust on your behalf.

Unfortunately, we cannot determine how long it will take to restore our withdrawal systems, but will advise you of any changes at http://updates.neteller.com. Please continue to visit this page for the latest information about NETELLER and its service to our members.

We regret the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding."

I feel so MUCH better that they regret my inconvenience. I guess I am a First Class Fool for believing the line they fed me on the phone and not jumping on the p2p bandwagon when I had the chance.

The article seems to inflate already dramatic USA Today report. It contains ridiculous grammatical errors.

The agent claim JSL Systems, a US-based payment company owned by Mr Lefebvre, received customer funds...

Now that's journalism!

I do not believe the article is right for a number of reasons. I give it an 80% chance it's sourced straight from USA Today.

The Guardian is a very good newspaper. It's the UK equivalent of the NY Times or the Washington Post. With that said, the article did look like it could have been pieced together from the USA Today article and a bit of googling; there weren't really any sources cited except USA Today.

Not to sound alarmist, as I think eventually we'll get our money, but say hypothetically we don't

either

A. Neteller at some point says "You're SOL, we're either belly up or simply not paying US balances, better luck next time."

or

B. Neteller just never does anything, 3 months pass, 6 months pass, 1 year passes, etc. Our balances just sit there in limbo

Obviously there would be LOTS of pissed off people, probably what a few million that got stuck, some LARGE amounts of money (6 figures+).

What would be our legal recourses? Like what would be step 1? I would definitely want to take legal action against them and many others would as well.

Default Washington Post article

I'm interested in this part:

"Prosecutors have increased efforts to force advertising companies and Web sites to reject paid ads for Internet gambling sites. They also sent subpoenas to at least three investment banks, HSBC, Dresdner Kleinwort and Credit Suisse. Richard Lindsay, spokesman for HSBC, said the subpoena it received late last year requested information "pertaining to some Internet gambling companies.""

what reason would they have to subpoena investment banks?

we have to assume Neteller executives are rational human beings. It is clear that they can't get to our money without conducting some serious financial crimes. people here seem to think that all they have to do is just declare BK then they can take all US customers' money in the trust and buy mansions and private jets for themselves. this is simply not true.
If they can't take the money into their own pockets, there is really no incentive for them to continue to keep the money indefinately. Not to mention it will be really bad for their business elsewhere.

I agree. This is obviously a legimate business and a high profile situation. The company is not going to committ a bunch of terrible crimes with everyone eyeing them and what not, I was just wondering what the first step would be in the small case something did happen.

The government scares me alot more than Neteller at this point.

If the DOJ said "We'll this money is all illegal because it was in/out of poker and gambling sites, so it's our now" (they do this with drug money) then I see no way of fighting it. I seriously doubt the DOJ does this as it would cause a massive uproar as well.

People would still try to sue the government probably, but good luck with that.

I still believe we'll see the money (it might be 3-6 months though)
