To be completely honest, I think naming the bar "Sup Bro" would be great.

PS, Ill probably be bumping this thread over the next year for advice as you guys are my target clientele, but if anyone has any good ideas or sees something at a bar that is really cool and different, please let me know. It doesnt have to be major things either, as an example, there is a bar in chicago, bourdeax's, that has highball glasses on each table filled with bazooka joe, I thought that was an awesome idea, so I wrote it down.

GL guids. One of the things I really appreciate about bars I frequent is customer service. Goes without saying. If I want T&A, I'll go to the strip club. Also, having a variety of beers on tap, especially stuff from New Belgium, Odell, and local breweries to go along with Guinness, Bass, Harp, Newcastle, Blue Moon, Killian's, and stuff like that.

Albuquerque doesn't have many brewpubs, but I enjoy going to the two or three that we do have and would rather go there than most places around town. Denver has a ton of brewpubs, and I always love going up there to visit Pint's Pub, Breckenridge, Wynkoop, and others. Not saying you should open a brewpub or have a hundred beers on tap, but beer variety is good.

For ideas on food and maybe other things, here are some places I enjoy hanging out at in Albuquerque and Denver.

www.oniells.com - top-notch customer service and good food
www.chamariverbrewery.com - great beer, the bartop is all copper...looks awesome
www.2foolstavern.com - Irish pub with great food and hardwood floors / leather seats, very cool
www.turtlemountainbrewing.com - great pizza and good beers
www.pintspub.com - over 200 single malt scotches and whiskys, good brews, and a lamb stew that is awesome
www.breckbrew.com - some great microbrews and excellent barbecue
www.wynkoop.com - huge two-floor building, good microbrews, and an upstairs mini-pool hall with an L-shaped pool table

Have fun with it! PS - if I saw a bar with a couple tables with inlaid chessboards and pieces available, I'd probably [censored]. Fox and Hound has checker tables, which is kinda cool too.

geez, now Im self conscience about spelling the, I do not do it on purpose, Ive said this before, this forum really brought out the fact that I think I have a mild case of dyslexia. As far as drugs are concerned, i am very disciplined, and I dont really have an addictive personality, they really have never been a problem for me, even the booze isnt that big of a deal for me to stop drinking. I never miss it, I guess is what Im saying, and obv I like talking/joking about it more than I actually do em. but tuq, when I open, you def get a comped steak.

Quick update as per request.

I havent done too much honestly, other than read some start-up and biz plan books, I looked at 3 or 4 places with a realtor, got hooked up with a loan officer at USBank, now is kind of the pleminary meet and greets, with various people. the places we looked at were out of our price range/not a godo location. My partner who will be going in on this with me works at a hole in the wall place now, but the location is stellar. there are absentee owners, and he basically runs the place. We have made an "offer" to the owners to take over the lease, and buy it for 50k. Nice part is, my buddy does great there, because he can pack that place with our friends/neighboorhood people, this wont change, and he makes 50k cash per year in tips. What the plan is now at least if we can get the place, is to split the tips for a year, take all profit we make from liquor sales for a year, and use it for a renovation in feb/march of next year, then have a "grand re-opening". If we make this place upscale, we will be banking. Not expensive drink-wise, just nice looking on the interior.

guids,

Am I going nuts or isn't the post you just made completely different than your OP (where, IIRC, you had a guy who had a nearby building that was gonna kill it with the right theme, etc.)?

That was a different place, I didnt really think the bar that my partner works at was ever up for grabs, it is now. Its like the complete opposite situation now. If anyone knows someone who can move a 3 story building for cheap, pm me. hehe..
