I think my list is

1. X-Com: UFO Defense
2. Half-Life (incl. Counter-Strike)
3. TIE Fighter
4. Diablo 2
5. Age of Empires 2

Honorable mention goes to LoZ: Link to the Past and Super Mario Kart.

I realize that this forum is dominated by console gaming, but the superior controls of a PC (mouse, joystick) really enabled some much better games. Golden Eye was a great console shooter, sure, but it really doesn't hold up to Doom, Quake, Half-Life, etc.

Some are mentioning multiplayer levels. DM6 in Quake is my favorite heads up level, but for several players I liked the gasworks level for Half-Life.

Horribly wrong. I've played all of them to death and I think you'll find plenty of people rate Golden Eye as the best ever FPS on balance.

I'm confused about how control would even work for a console shooter. Never having played one, I'm curious. Is it like trying to aim at the TIE Fighters in Star Wars on the ColecoVision?

I would agree in general that the control via a console controller does not work as well as a mouse/keyboard combo. I would even agree that Goldeneye's control method was not better than a good mouse/keyboard combo, but it was probably as near to perfect for a console as you can get, and other aspects (the greatness of the multiplayer game mainly) made up for it.

Regarding the controls, there were various setups mostly involving using a joystick/and D pad shaped button arrangements for both movement and look around. The game aided your aiming a little so utterly precise accuracy was not essential, further taking the edge off the controller disadvantage.

1. Call of Duty 1 (PC) - spent so much time on this game. I've been playing online for the last three years although I don't play too much anymore.
2. Halo 1 (XBOX)- My favorite "party" game, MP is awesome.
3. Zelda: OoT
4. MGS 3: Subsistence - good replay value, far and away the best Metal Gear game.
5. Tony Hawk 1-4 - I copped out here, couldn't pick one but I would probably lean towards #4.
