what kind of kickbacks do you get from contact companies for prescribing a certain kind? can you tell me anything about the acuvue oasys? I just got them because I have really dry eyes from accutane and they are incredible, light years better than the acuvue advance. how well does optometry pay?

my doc told me about a meth user patient she had, and the meth crystallized at the back of his eyeball and looked like snow, ever seen anything like this?

I am a -11 how much worse can it get before I actually go blind?

Will laser surgery help me or is it too risky?

Is there anything I can do to improve my night vision? I haven't been able to see in the dark my entire life.

Thanks

I have these foggy spots on my right eye. It's like they're floating over my iris and pupil, and I can see them, they're very foggy though, and they move in conjunction with my eyes.

What are these annoying things, are they harmful, and how do I get rid of them?

[/ QUOTE ]

I have this too. It's almost like a small fly on your eye but it doesn't hurt. What is this?

I have two different colored eyes (one brown, one light green/blue). How uncommon is this?

I am told partaking in a certain activity that I am considering will result in blindness. Could you lead me to a reference where I can research further?

are you an md? i always get confused to whos who in the eye business.

[/ QUOTE ]

No...I'm an OD. Everybody gets us confused. Think of it this way

Optician = Pharmacist
Optometrist = Family Doctor
Ophthalmologist (MD) = Surgeon

Optician dispenses the glasses/contacts based on the presciption by the optometrist or ophthalmologist but he's not a "DR". An Optometrist is a "DR" but not an MD....kinda like a dentist or chiropractor.

[/ QUOTE ]

I follow your analogy, but don't agree with lumping a dentist or a chiropractor toghether. While a dentist is not an MD, they are basically the 'md' of the oral cavity. They can diagnose, treat, prescibe medication etc....

You say an optometrist is similar to a family doctor. Can they prescribe medication? Do they have MD to their name?

[/ QUOTE ]

Optometrists can prescribe medications in at least 45 states....perhaps all 50.We are similar to a family dr in that we are the first line of defense (primary care) when it comes to eyes. If a patient has an eye problem, they can come directly to us without referal (you can't see any specialist without referals). We detect and treat eye diseases but we cannot perform surgery although there are a few states where optometrists can perform minor surgery. I only lump optometrists with chiropractors and dentists and veterinarians bc we care "doctors" but not MD's.

What are the odds of complications arising after going through LASIK or PRK? What's the worst that can happen?
