he said I was the first prisoner he ever had from seg at a max to general pop at a min.
I was never a 'max' prisoner. I was considered the miniest of the min. That is why I was trusted with outside grounds work. (Side note: the other guys in outside grounds were ok people who made mistakes as well. Guys I would easily share a beer with in other circumstances.)
Basically, when my name was brought up in a threat (unknown to me), that triggers a whole process of re-evaluation and sending all inmates mentioned to different prisons. I was no longer outside grounds elgible due to my seg time. I then went to one of the two lightest minimum prisons in the state (Vienna and East Moline).

no....put hands up to block my face/eyes/etc, but made no aggressive move back. Took the first one standing/staring down like I was some sort of tough guy. Quickly, my mind went to survival mode.

I took a criminal justice class at school and we watched a movie on maximum and super-max prisons. The movie made it seem like almost everyone was in a gang and it was all racially divided... Arian Nation, Mexican Mafia, etc. Is this really that big of a factor?

Back in the day, I could get just about everything. My roommate dealt marijuana and GHB. A friend of his grew shrooms, manufactured GHB, manufactured DXM, and was working on DMT(?). My next door neighbors deal cocaine and ecstasy. Drugs flowed through are little corner of our apartment complex. The only drug it would take me more than a day to have a hook-up for was heroin. I never got close to that one. I'm sure I could've if I wanted. My neighbors' coke binges were scary enough.

It would cost me less than $3 for a dosage of GHB. Acid was $5. X would be $15. Things were ridiculously cheap compared to market values.

I paid in cash...I worked alot.
When the prosecutor was talking about me being a dealer, I told my lawyer he should look at my bank accounts....lol.

yes, over 90% of inmates either are, or become affiliated with one group or another in those facilities


supermax is mainly just for gang chiefs who cannot be trusted to live in max prisons without creating a very dangerous environment for everyone.
