Would the NFL have the best chance of determining who the best team is by getting rid of the playoffs and cutting straight to the Superbowl?
I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you. I would just like to hear your reasoning. |

yes, I think the NFL would be better if they had no teams they played twice and determined the best two teams via a BCS ranking like evaluation.
I'd still rather have balanced schedules and the best record in the AL play the best record in the NL as well. |

Probably. Considering the interrelated schedule, the lesser number of teams, the more games played, the NFL can do a very good job of figuring out who the best teams in football are every year.
2005: Ind. vs. Seattle 2004: Ok, this is a clusterfuck, Ind, Pit, and NE were all excellent and could've take on Philly. 2003: Carolina luckboxed the NFC (should've been philly/GB), NE, KC, Ten or INd were all excellent AFC teams. 2002: Yeah, TB vs. Oakland. 2001: The NE luckbox year. Pit or Oak should've taken on STL and lost badly. I guess it's just too ambiguous many years, the bye system really helps weed out the weaker teams. The only ones where you can really argue a team shouldn't have won were 2005, and 2001. |

did i say that I'm acknowledging the fact that everyone has played 12 or 13 games that should count for something many ignore that those happened 'out on the field' as well and choose to overweight an end of the year seeding fest [/ QUOTE ] Seems like you could easily make an 8 team playoff out of the conference champs + 2 wild cards as well. |

I actually wouldn't mind if it was conference champs and *good* wildcards if necessary. It would emphasize winning the conference and, hopefully, would open teams up to scheduling more quality games out-of-conference. It should also help keep relative parity among the conferences.
I don't really consider Michigan this year a *good* wildcard as they were a clear second best team in the big10 and it wouldn't be fair to Ohio State to not acknowledge that. |

They just reported on SC that Tressel may get his voting rights removed for not voting this week.
