[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] - im good in the right ways [/ QUOTE ] Wow dude. You're right. A discussion sure has helped you verbalize your knowledge on the subject. Thanks for sharing. [/ QUOTE ] despite your tone i will elaborate... [/ QUOTE ] I retract my previous sarcastic comment and appologize. This thread is shaping up nicely and the OP seems very knowledgable about the subject. |

Limon,
Do you ever let them win the first time to set up a bigger win? Have you ever been involved in some The Color Of Money situation where someone allows you to let them win the first time, then lets you win the second time, and then hustles you the third time? |

I thought this thread was going to be something along the lines off... "Oh, OK I guess I'll play the back nine left handed if you give me 2 shots a hole" or something along those lines. I dont know if simply playing golf against people who suck qualifies you as a hustler. Yeah, they dont know you are good blah blah but the same is true for poker. Are sucsessfu poker players 'hustlers'? Maybe I am associating the word hustler with a negative conotation but whatever...give me an example of your hustle bro! Also, if you are a four handicap and you consider your short game to be your biggest strength I highly doubt you have encountered many people who are going to beat you simply because they have an amazing putting stroke. I mean serouisly, wtf, are you playing mini-golf or something? [/ QUOTE ] i "hover" around a 4 no, i almost never meet anyone who can output me, but some can. thats why i take the challenge. theres a guy name rudy in palm springs who will bet even money on any 12 foot put 2/1 on 20 footers. you can choose the put or put against him heads up. hes ridiculous. |

limon,
You said you are an excellent putter of the golfing ball. Do you use a standard grip or cross-handed/claw/long putter etc? I went cross-handed years ago and it did wonders but I fully realize YMMV and it's what you're most comfortable with... |

[/ QUOTE ] this doesnt really happen. bets dont grow like this (in general). if your going to play a weekly game you let your opponent win enough that he doesnt quit. some people almost never quit so you almost never let them win (this only happens in a group setting). if your going to play a one time game you just try to slaughter them right then and there. you decide what will get you more money/customers. usually its being nice and showing restraint. against some people though, the type who say, "what the [censored] do i care, its only a grand" those people respond better to a challenge. |

[/ QUOTE ] i put the same way i swing, my put is just a mini swing. im self taught w/ no golfers in my family. some old dude told me my swing looked like bobby jones, loose and laggy, i just step up and hit. i checked it out and it does (sorta). my whole game is circa 1930. |

[/ QUOTE ] This basically tells me that you are a very confident player, since the mechanics you're describing went by the wayside a long time ago, I believe due to the number of ways it could break down - often it was mental weakness that led to problems with the stroke, which often feeds upon itself. Then again, if you think you're going to make everything in sight then you could probably putt with the blade of pitching wedge and it wouldn't matter. Anyway, good thread. Thanks. |

[/ QUOTE ] hustles like the one described are few and far between. its all too obvious. these are more prop bets than hustles. it takes skill to get a guy to bet more than he was going to or to know exactly how to keep a guy coming back for more or to set up bets in such a way that you have a big advantage and no one knows. im talking about a "go to vegas/palm springs/ florida and play golf for free for life" hustler not a amarillo slim hustler...those barnstorming days are gone. |

[ QUOTE ] anyone can answer, what is sandbagging? [/ QUOTE ] Playing off a higher handicap than you actually are. Which is why playing for other than nominal stakes you need to take what anybody says is their handicap with many grains of salt. [/ QUOTE ] I've never understod how people can play for money with handicaps. Imagine playing poker with someone but he says "trust me, I really suck, let me have three hole cards and it'll be even"; wtf, no. |
