I don't have a stop loss other than the daily limit of my ATM - the thinking is that variance does not "know" this arbitrary limitation. What is the difference of going down 75BB in one session, or 25BB in 3 consecutive sessions?

I think stop losses are arbitrary. More important is recognizing when you're tilting, or playing at an unprofitable table.

That's just the thing. For many players, being stuck makes them play differently (if not tilt outright). They recognize that and decide on a stop loss, albeit arbitrary, to prevent it from happening.

You seem capable of viewing a down dip as just that, others are not as capable of that level of detachment.

This thread has some really good advice. Its too bad nobody is listening. Also, to everyone who is saying to TT "you don't understand until you're married", you're basically saying "my wife isn't very smart and we don't communicate well with each other". If you can't have an intelligent conversation about poker with your wife, and make her understand very basic things like bankroll, you probably have a lot bigger problems than all the guilt she makes you carry for playing poker.

If you are a rocket scientist, and your wife doesn't understand aeronautical engineering, you don't automatically have a problem in your relationship.

Obviously if a pro poker player marries someone who has issues with poker, it's gonna be rough. However, I play poker recreationally. Married 16 years, playing poker 5 months.
Poker is to my wife what menstrual cycles are to me. I suspect this is the case for many.......doesn't stop me wanting to improve, nor does it impugn my wife's considerable intelligence.

That said, my wife's distaste for poker does not justify -ev decisions. It just limits my game time

C'mon, that isn't even near what I was talking about.

All I am trying to say is that if my wife had some sort of problem with me playing poker, I would talk it out with her instead of avoiding the problem or making it worse by just ignoring it. She either has two problems, she doesn't understand the game at all and has problems associated with that, or she doesn't like you spending so much time doing that. Now either way you have a problem, both of which should be easily fixed without you having to give up poker or sneak around or lie to her.

Yes, I have been known to make this mistake.. I have been the pot, but I still know its wrong. The big difference is that in the games that I play regularly with Bret I sometimes don't bring enough money because its all last minute if you know what I mean But normally I practice what I preach.
