For the record I wrestled in HS. You only have a 25 pound weight advantage while being 5 inches taller. I am willing to bet that your opponent is stronger than you where it counts eg core, hips, and leg strength. He will be much harder to take down than you because of his height and you will be a huge easy target for him. He will also, most likely, have your ass totally kicked when it comes to cardio. This is the most important aspect in wrestling aside from skill and 4 years of HS training will last through many years of slacking off. You are at a definate disadvantage but the best thing you can do now until the match is to train your cardio as much as you can. I wouldn't do this by jogging but instead do interval training and rope jumping.

I can't get myself to believe this. This guy has been on a diet of Tyson processed chicken, soup (he says this is for his daily vegetables), potato chips, and beer for the last 2 years. He has not been doing any sort of athletic activities. I just can't buy this guy having more core and leg strength than me. There's also no way he has more endurance. I've also recently switched over to interval cardio training from standard even pace cardio.

For the record: despite all this, I still feel like I'm a huge dog in this match. He's out of shape but he'll be better equiped to take me down. I think my strategy would be to just try to outlast him as long as I can and try to get him exhausted.

its definately not a guaranteed loss. I'd say you're definately no worse than a 3:1 dog, assuming that you've got pretty significant edges in strength and conditioning. depending on your edge and his pudginess you could be as high as even money.

[/ QUOTE ]

No way.

It doesnt matter how good OP's cardio is. He will never be able to pin the wrestler. He has no idea how to do it. He would have to train for an extremely long time to learn the technique to pin someone who knows how not to be pinned. But first he has to take the wrestler down or get a reversal....neither of which is going to happen if the wrestler is any good at all.

That being said, the wrestler will pin the non-wrestler with no problem almost every time...depends on how good the wrestler is. From what it sounds like here, OP has very little chance.

3:1 is way off let alone even money.

A more interesting prop bet would to put a time limit on how long it takes the wrestler to pin you. Otherwise, IMO the OP would just be throwing money away taking this bet.

This is key for you. He's not going to lose strength as fast as he will lose anerobic endurance. You are going to have to be a LOT stronger than him go make up his advantage in technique because he knows how to do moves with proper mechanics. This means that he can do what you can do using less strength and less energy. However, if you are stronger than him and you amp up your interval training allowing you to push the action beyond what he is confortable with, you can overwhelm him. That would be my strategy.

go to the nearest high school and ask to practice with the team until the bet occurs, that should help cover some ground. otherwise, you're probably [censored].

really? back in hs we've had random people come in for practices before and i did drop in on one since graduating (at a different school). could be a sample size issue though.

wu,

Crazy liability issues there. I don't doubt it happened, but it was not the norm. Think about it, what if a kid gets hurt?

U,

Push the bet off as long as you can and get a wrestling coach.
