I enjoy football, but the atmosphere around college football is unmatched in the NFL (I'm a student, so I'm probably biased). Plus, you don't usually see unsportmanly showboating in college football, which really disgusts me in the NFL (it's not so common any more). It's just that the NFL is more of a business whereas college football is more "the spirit of the game."

[/ QUOTE ]

Solid point about the showboating. I actually think the NFL has gone too far with their taunting penalties and fines. Some of the stuff is harmless and entertaining (Steve Smith) while other people take it way too far (Owens, C.Johnson, Moss). But it's gotten to the point where Greg Lewis was called for a 15 yard penalty for dropping the ball in the vicinity of an opposing player, which was deemed "taunting."

I disagree about atmosphere, see my post above yours. FWIW, I'm also a student at a major college football school (Penn State). I also disagree about the business thing. The BCS and business side of college football actually bothers me more than the NFL business side. It's gotten to the point that, IMO, the NCAA should just pay the players and turn it into a business.

The most annoying afternoon I've ever spent was watching a USC game in the student section. I was not a fan of the atmosphere.

But I'll include most of the sports I can think of just for the sake of completeness. So don't bitch at me for including stuff like golf.

If golf didn't get ratings, they wouldn't have it on a billion weeks a year for 4 days straight spread out over 2 networks. Golf is terrific to watch.

College football specifically. I cannot stand the NFL.

[/ QUOTE ]

When I was younger (middle school) I thought college > NFL. But oh man. The games are just so damn long. Quit stopping the clock every 1st down already.

I voted basketball. If I subscribed to a soccer package, it'd probably be that.

[/ QUOTE ]

I love that the games take so long, and I wish the NFL had four hour games also. That being said, I don't like the play clock rule n CFB because the ammount of time run off between plays is dependent on how quickly the official sports the ball. (I would be in favor of a radical change in football's clock rules (probably more radical than anything you can imagine)).

Anyone who doesn't pick American football is either mentally challenged or has very little experience watching it.

Well, 95% of the worlds population would disagree with you tho

[/ QUOTE ]

This isn't really true because 95% of the worlds population has very little (or no) experience watching it.

Duke, I agree that sitting in student sections can be good or bad depending on the circumstances. For example, it's no fun having beer and batteries thrown at you when wearing the visiting team colors in the student section. In fact, some schools' general admission section is the best spot where the fans are into it alot, but not so much it gets annoying. Nebraska would be one example of this, IMO. Great atmosphere anywhere in the stadium and people are actually pretty cool even if you're routing for the other guys.
