Maybe you should try smoking in moderation.

[/ QUOTE ]

No, if he's smoking 1/8 to 1/4 every day, then he's got a serious problem, and it's very unlikely that being an occasional smoker is an option for him. Would you tell someone who downed two liters of vodka a day just to have an occasional drink or two?

[/ QUOTE ]
Okay, I agree with your first statement that being an occasional smoker may not be an option for him. However, I had only seen replies that said to quit and never do it again. I had to at least suggest that smoking in moderation might be another option.

If I knew someone who drank two liters of vodka a day, then I wouldn't tell them to have a drink or two a day, and I wouldn't tell them to stop cold turkey and never do it again. I would give them advice similar to the following:

"If I was quitting right now, I might gradually try drinking once every other day, then every weekend, and then cut it down to once per week or so whenever you feel like relaxing by yourself or enjoying the company of a few friends."

Maybe if the OP gradually got off of his habit, he could find a healthy medium instead of thinking he has to smoke a quarter a day or none at all.

Whiskeytown?

hell no.

I never have and never will post anything anonymously - what have I said in real life I wouldn't say on here?

I do have a rarely used gimmick account however.

Yeah, I didn't seriously think that. Your vaporizer trip report clearly demonstrated your commitment.

So, I am on Day 36 of cold-turkey not smoking. I feel like absolute [censored]. I want to punch everyone I see. Pretty much every little thing is pissing me off big time. I can't concentrate and I feel very depressed. I've been road raging at everyone on the streets.

Maybe you should try smoking in moderation. If you really enjoy smoking weed, you shouldn't force yourself to never do it again. If I was quitting right now, I might gradually try smoking once every other day, then every weekend, and then cut it down to once per week or so whenever you feel like relaxing by yourself or enjoying the company of a few friends. Anyway, good luck and keep us updated.

This is really bad advice.

If OP had asked for advice on how to quit smoking cigarettes, every one of you would have (rightfully) said to gradually smoke less and less each week until you can quit. This is exactly what the nicotine patches and gum is for. It is a long process that requires a lot of self control, but it can be done. Every scientific study has shown that gradually quitting, step by step, is the most effective means of quitting. I guarantee you that if weed was legal in the US, there would be companies releasing THC patch step programs to gradually get people to stop smoking weed. Contrary to what you may believe chesspain, gradually quitting over a period of time is not really bad advice.

If someone's drinking 2liters of vodka a day, quitting cold turkey is probably impossible without death. You'd have to wean yourself off gradualy, or be hospitalized and filled with other drugs like valium or something. This isn't true for someone who smokes a lot though, they aren't in any physical danger from quitting cold turkey, so I dont think there's a nead for him to do such things.

I quite smoking cigars a little over 3 months ago. I have quit cigarettes before – went off and on then off for a long while, then started cigars – went off and on. (Haven’t touched cigarettes in years.) I think I have the cigar thing licked now, but never know.

I get a bit depressed when I quit. I am a bit depressed this go around. I am sure the nicotine is out of my system from the cigars, but I still want one every now and then. I still get bummed out that I can’t have one. The physical addition is the easiest part to get over. It is the mental – or habit part that is the “monkey”. What makes it hard too is that I still enjoyed smoking as I am sure you did.

I feel great for not smoking. I plan to keep it that way. Don’t get off the wagon, you have come this far.

I have no answer to your question. I just wanted you to know you are not alone nor are you crazy (well maybe we both are crazy – at least we are not alone, though.)

Oh and if you get the huge urge to blaze, call somebody and tell them. Perhaps try NA (narcotics anonymous)

You in here for some marijuana, man this is some [censored]. Marijuana is not a drug, I used to suck dick for coke. You ever suck any dick for marijuana?

[/ QUOTE ]

First thing that popped in my head.

OP, I agree that you probably were self-medicating. I doubt the punchy-punchy has anything to do with any kind of withdrawal.

He's already not smoked for 36 days. You're telling him to start smoking again so that he can quit differntly. How does that sound like a good idea?

You're probably not going through withdrawal, rather, you've kind of forgotten about all the stuff you have to deal with when you're not high.

I find it crazy that people actually find it hard to quit weed. Is it somehow psychologically addicting when you use it so much for so long? It's not actually capable of providing physical withdrawal symptons, is it?

If you are into any sort of physical activity, by all means overdo it. The days I crave the least and feel the best are the days I run the hardest.
