Paging through an issue of the magazine 'High Roller' at a book-store yesterday there was a big WPEX ad on Page 4 or 5 or so.

To my amateur eye, I'm not completely convinced that the lay-out of the ad is the best way to get customers to WPEX. But it is yet another ad in one of those semi-major magazines out there.

If they don't have a 'play-money' dot-net type of spin-off site then it's kind of hard to get your advertisments on the air in the U.S.

But the magazine ads (and the lengthy write-up in a recent CardPlayer) are pretty decent starts towards successfully marketing the site.

I haven't played there yet but I've DLed the software and watched some games. The graphics strike me as being extremely distracting. Plus, I will have a lot of overlap if I multitable since I chose not to purchase a large monitor with my new computer thanks to resizable tables being released at Party (and now Stars). Any sort of a mini-view (40-70% of the size of a normal window) which eliminates all the extraneous imagery would be a major incentive to get my business. (Resizable tables would be the best, but I'm guessing that is more difficult to implement, and I'll settle for less).

Just a few little things I noticed when I was playing on WPEX (haven't played poker anywhere at all for a while, so this may already be changed):

-The chat dialog, when you try to scroll upward and read earlier stuff, automatically goes to the bottom every time something happens on the table and it updates. This is annoying and makes it almost impossible to read through earlier hands and whatnot. Other sites' chat doesn't do this.

-Pot-limit Omaha would be nice, since right now there is just limit Omaha Hi/Lo. Both PLO and PLO8 would be nice to have.

-The action buttons, e.g. bet/raise/etc. could stand to be a little bigger/stand out better/whatever.

-Transferring money into the gaming server or whatever it's called from the poker server sometimes can take a long time and be a pain in the rear. I play a fair amount of blackjack and other games and the time lag to transfer money was a real annoyance. If there is some way to make this transfer faster or, ideally, unnecessary then that would increase participation in your casino business.

A lot of little stuff I guess. Nothing big but there are definitely some annoyances with the software. You already know the big stuff, well, the stuff most of 2+2 wants. I do think, though, that if you make too many changes that encourage WPEX to be filled with 8-tabling 2+2ers this will make the games bad (casual players will rarely win). I'm not a pro but I'm not really a casual player either. I like a good gamble as much as the next guy ... and if I see WPEX filled with multi-tabling TAGs then I will take my action elsewhere, rake or not. I really think I speak for a lot of casual players when I say that.

In general I guess what I am trying to say is that different changes will tend to attract different clientele ... evaluate these changes with this in mind.

Advertise on TV during the WSOP if you can. These games need to be loosened up.

Its too late now but I would have given back 90% of the rake and advertised with the rest.

Wrong.
Party and Absolute, to name the first ones that come to mind.

I can't speak for Absolute but Party's chat doesn't do this. We nust be thinking of different things ... I know Party's automatically moves down when you aren't trying to scroll through it but it doesn't when you are scrolling upward. WPEX's does and that is annoying. You just about cannot read through old chat.

Default I switched from PP to WSEX full time today

I agree with many posters above...

get rid of the big cards at the bottom

bigger cards by the chair

HH to hard drive

Maybe consider the UB model of always being in the same chair

better alerting when it is your turn at tables

maybe a bit more time to decide before hand goeas dead

a confirmation window asking if you are sure you want to fold when it is possible to check

Be careful of self-professed or actual pros, when it comes to taking advice.

It's not multi-tablers you really need to please. It's recreational players. It's the net-losers you need, in the long run. (And I don't say that disparagingly - there's nothing wrong with playing poker for fun.)

If you make your recreational players happy, the sharp players will follow, regardless of HHs or big cards or whatever.

Btw, I like the big cards, and I do think they encourage people to play more hands - which is good for the site, in the long run.

Add some Heads-Up tables. You guys had them before, and I recall they were pretty busy. I remember they attracted a lot of high limit players, and that brought in even more "railbirds", who could potentially become players on the site.
