canucks made a qualifying offer to Luango for this season for 3.2 mil. How quickly will they sign him to a long term deal.

TRADE: Boston deals D Nick Boynton and a 4th round pick in 2007 to Phoenix for D Paul Mara and a 3rd in 2007 or 2008.

This deal was rumored to be happening at the draft but didn't go down on Saturday. Mara's from Boston (well, born in Ridgewood, NJ) and Boston seems to love acquiring these kinds of players - good offensive upside. Boynton's a better defensive defenseman.

Mantooth, I think Lupien and Luongo are testing the UFA market next summer. I don't think Vancouver has any intention of retaining Luongo long-term.

Laviolette signs a 5-year deal. Our draft pick was something along the lines of backup stick boy, so Rutherford is trying to keep the core players together. Obviously have to let some go, esp. the guys that jumped on board for the cup run. Recchi, I believe, is headed back to Pittsburgh. Stillman indicated that he wants to finish out his career here. Interestingly, Doug Weight is still in Raleigh and hasn't returned to Missouri as of yesterday. House hunting (hehe)? He'd come with quite a price tag. Gerber will certainly be looking for a starting goalie position, as he doesn't want to be Ward's backup. It makes me nervous as hell to have Cam Ward starting. He did great in the playoffs, but Gerber got us there. Don't know if Ward can take an 82 game season.

Where the hell is Pronger headed and how can you trust a guy that takes off on a juicy 5-yr. deal? TSA was indicating Toronto, but who the hell would they trade for him? I couldn't see them giving up any of their core players, and no one else could come close to Pronger's worth. I feel for Edmonton--what a bastard!

Apparently his wife hates living in Edmonton. I guess teams should go after pleasing his wife...

edmonton tried to trade pronger to florida

"Reportedly GM Kevin Lowe asked Florida GM Mike Keenan for 23-year-old defenseman Jay Bouwmeester, 21-year-old center Nathan Horton and the 10th-overall pick in yesterday's draft for Pronger, who will turn 32 in October. While these discussions obviously did not go anywhere, if this is an indication of what it will take to get the Oilers' blueliner, it will be a while before he changes addresses. (Mon. Jun 26, 2006) "

Recchi and Weight are unlikely to be retained. I just don't feel like the 'Canes need Doug Weight, and I feel like someone will overpay him. He's really not that effective at this point anyway.

More news: Matthew Barnaby and Curtis Brown were bought out by Chicago. Both were terrible. Barnaby's career could be about over.

Mantooth - if that's even approaching the truth, Pronger isn't moving. There isn't a GM in the league that would give up that for him.

Zurvan - I thought that report was ridiculous as well. I do think that they might have been able to make a better overall trade before the draft. Now it will be difficult.

Truimph - any reason why you don't think vancouver will not want to try and sign Luango to a long term deal?

I can't speak for Triumph, but it's been pretty well established that Luongo wants to hit the UFA market. IMO, if Vancouver could sign Luongo long-term, they would. I just don't think Luongo would take anything less than max dollars right now. Once he hits the open market, he may realize that he can't get max money. If Brodeur is making $5.5 M, there's no way Luongo gets 7.5 - 8.

Brodeur's making 6M and even so, Brodeur has never been a UFA in his career.

Luongo's agent is Gilles Lupien, a big time [censored] - he absolutely refuses to deal with Lou L. at this point, I believe. I am sure Luongo and Lupien are convinced he will get big $$$ on the open market. I think Vancouver will try to sign Luongo long-term but I just don't think they will be able to - Luongo isn't worth a max contract and unless that's what Vancouver offers, Roberto's going to test the market.
