all this car talk is boring. OP asked for what girls and average guys think about a guy in a viper. I see a viper every now and then and yes, normally I think 'that guys' probably a dork with no friends' When the white middle-aged balding guy with sunglasses steps out, these feelings become more solidified. Most girls think guys in vipers are dork/losers. So the answer is yes. I would be much more impressed with a guy in a bmw, or better yet a nice dirty truck. Now that is hot.

if you are buying a BMW or mercedes just to seem wealthy and sophisticated, then you are a huge tool

however, if you are buying the dodge viper because it looks cool, is a very uncommon car, and you want to drive recklessly fast, then you actually have a real reason for that purcahse, other than just some silly image.

if you can justify the purchase of a viper with reasons such as 'fun' and the ability to haul arse, those are much better reasons for buying a car than trying to show off how classly and sophisticated you are via BMW

you wife's friends a tools themselves

The other thing, that Im not sure if it has been brought up, insurance on a Viper is MAMMOTH, because the body is all one piece, and the average clam is 36k I believe. You usually have to replace the whole body, even for a semi-small accident.

I think there are a lot of other badass cars out there other than the viper.

Is the viper cool? Yes, but gas mileage is atrocious, insurance is ridiculous, and general maintanance is just a nightmare.

Why not consider something like a Vette Z06? They get damn close to 30mpg highway, and parts are american which are cheaper to replace.

FYI. In Sweden BMWs are only driven either by poor people who want to look rich (older BMWs) or mid-life-guys who can't afford the car they really want.
