That's actually pretty interesting.

My Dad and sister are both called 'doctor'.
my Dad got his PhD in biochemistry and made an actual scientific discovery that got written about in a few magazines and made him semi-famous in his field.
My sister is a veternarian..and evidently vet-school is roughly as tough as med-school from what I've been told.

Yet my Dad would insist that I'm actually the smartest one in the family (I'm not sure whether I agree or not...it's difficult to say) even though I went the easy route and got my bachelors degree in the not-so-academically-challenging field of Mass Communications and now just struggle and grind my way along playing poker for a living.

Yea my mom always thought I was the smartest one in the family, but never applied myself. She's right about me not applying myself, but I am nowhere near as smart as my brother.

Careers are a poor way of defining one's IQ.

IQ can be considered one's learning potential. In the end, it's up to you to choose whether you live up to your potential. Some geniuses do, some don't. Simple as that.

Anyone can have a 200 IQ and simply be lazy.

IANAL, but I think it may be illegal for employers to consider your IQ in hiring.

I'm certain someone here can confirm or deny this.

[/ QUOTE ]

An employer can do pretty much anything they want to, as long as everyone in the same job pool for a specific position is handled the same way.

If they want to give everyone an IQ test and score them they are free to do so.

Once you are hired there are areas that are protected under state or federal law..
You can’t be fired for refusing to take a lie detector test. (Federal law)

However you could fire someone for being gay (in over 30+ states).

It’s never as simple as you think…..

*cough*

Not stating my IQ here, finished high school, dropped out of college, became a chess master and fooled corporate America into thinking that I’m smart...

I’m doing OK…….

*cough*

But if I had the median IQ of what folks claim to have in this thread…..

I would build a skyscraper that has a landing pad for the space shuttle and a submarine that can morph into a stealth bomber that would surely kick ass.

For myself…….

I’m strong willed (management confuses this with commitment)

I have a big ego (they confuse this with passion)

I have a monstrous fear of losing (this they confuse with a drive to succeed)

I have to some degree an inferiority complex (this they confuse with humility)

Just like in a lot of other games you’ve got to play the cards you are dealt.
Either play them or spend your entire week in therapy.

High IQs are out. Struggling with a GED and working at Burger King is the new Ivy League.

I, like most posters in this thread, have a fairly high IQ (nowhere near what everyone else is stating, but somewhere around 2 SD's from average).

Anyway, I believe that a human with a high IQ has a greater ability to become a skilled poker player. That is pretty much all it boils down to.

As someone previously stated, IQ is linked to pattern recognition, and deduction, both of which are coveted attributes of a poker players repertoire.

I am also extremely lazy, and never apply myself. I think, as someone said earlier, it has a lot to do with being overwhelmingly bored with typical daily challenges.

I wish employers made people take IQ tests. That way I'd probably get rewarded with more challenging work, which would make life more interesting. As it stands, I waltz in an hour late everyday, unshaven, and very careless of my work.

You are really one of a kind, since assuming 6 billion people on this planet, standard deviation of 16, exactly 1.2314 people have IQ of 200 or higher. Congratulations!
