How to you expect Alan or anyone else to respond to that? You write a long winded post but only speak in generalities and give no hand examples whatsoever.

Actually, I have a very clear cut strategy. I said I don't want to explain to the world how I play by posting under my own name---that shouldn't be too shocking. I only mention the PF min. raise part because it is obvious to anyone at my table after 30-60 minutes, and is well known among the top pros. The fact that people think I play like Hellmuth or the post about playing AA in EP implies the vast majority of the world is clueless about how I play---lets keep it that way. [/ QUOTE ] This is what I'm referring to. He is delusional from running good. "OMG I HAVE STUMBLED ON TO THE SECRET TO POKER I MUST KEEP IT TO MYSELF" Maybe his natural talent in hand-reading etc has kept him afloat, but he is showing a clear misunderstanding of how poker works. Does he think that no one has thought of his strategy before? What makes him special? A Wall Street guy who only plays live tournaments? Hahaha, come on. Anyone that plays with you for a few hours can figure out whatever you are doing. Try playing in a cash game sometime. I know you guess that you would do well deep stacked, but I'd like to see you try. |

Hi Alan, While i enjoy the dig at phil h. it is simply not true that his play should make you puke. While i dont agree with some of his plays he definately make many less mistakes than you. [/ QUOTE ] You need to re-read the posts I have made on this forum. I never said Hellmuth's play makes me want to puke. I said COMPARING me to Hellmuth (saying we play the same way/style) makes me want to puke (I have heard it many times)---- we simply have little in common in how we play. I never said he makes more mistakes than me , never said he was a bad player, never said I was a great player, never said I was good player. I did say that I believe I am a better "deep chip" player than Phil H., thats all. Oh, and I did claim to have a style closer to Carlos & Danny N.----and I stand by these two statements. I have a view as to who I think is over-rated and under-rated (probably a lot more accurate than your own assessments), as well as how I think I compare----I am not interested in discussing those views with you. Lets just say you should ignore the media hype (including published rankings) and look at various win/(finish) RATES (i.e. adjust for number of events played, which is not publicly reported in a single location), and not just $'s but how often (rate of frequency) a player is beating 90%, 95%, 98%, 99% of the field. Feel free to publish your findings. |

YOU HAVE PLAYED AN INSIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF VERY HIGH VARIANCE LIVE MTTS. RESULTS ARE NOT A BIG FACTOR. Again, you are showing your complete lack of understanding.

[/ QUOTE ] Alan's career finishes Kurosh, it's not like this is a recent development (note Alan's May 10, 1999 result). Maybe you're right that one might catch on if they played X hours with him (I'm not going to presume either way), but doesn't his limited table time play into that fact? Players don't get enough table time with the man to get a read...sort of feels like you're arguing 'what ifs' that aren't pertinent to the discussion. edit; Alan, mind checking your message box? |

You people are all following the dogma, similar to the SSNL forum that believes minraising is all wrong.
There are many advantages to it, and it would benefit you to think about them. |

Alan,
First let me say that it is quite fun to watch you play in NL tournaments. I am a limit cash game player, so I don't have the expertise to evaluate your play. While your style is unorthodox, I do think there are some nice features to your approach. For one, your style seems to prevent information leakage early in the hand. Your choice of a small raise preflop, for example, seems to give up some value on big hands with the intention of protecting your ability to see a lot of flops. Additionally, it is harder for opponents to find the optimal strategy to counter your approach, because it is so unique. It likely does not make sense for an opponent to devote hours of their time analyzing your play when it is unlikely that this study will be crucial to their success in a big tournament. (Most likely, he will not sit at the same table with you for very long, if at all.) I do think, however, that judging your play on the results you have obtained so far is rather ridiculous. The variance in tournament poker is so large that it is very difficult to say anything meaningful about your play based on the results of 50 tournaments. That said, I have no reason to doubt that you have a winning style. I don't make any claim to what long-term results you should expect. The reality is that you will never know, as you will by your own choice end your lifetime having played far too few tournaments to establish an accurate confidence interval for your winrate. But that's okay -- who cares, as long as you are having fun? Anyway, I appreciate that you take the time to post in the threads about your play. |
