[ QUOTE ]
last week at the borg i saw someone rip up some cards in the 80/160 game because he lost a few pots. absolute unacceptable. [/ QUOTE ] I think Borg tolerates too much of this stuff. If people got tossed for a week for this type of action, they would stop doing it. Same goes for: throwing cards across the poker room (I've seen it) and at the dealer, as well as (the one I might hate the most) people who leave cards at their fingertips so dealers with shorter arms constantly have to reach or stand up to get them. Activities like this should flat out not be tolerated. Taj is actually MUCH less tolerant of this type of behavior than Borg is. Jeff |

it is however unfair that the burden to pay the dealers has been passed on to the players. [/ QUOTE ] If the casino decided to pay the dealers a higher hourly wage, that too would be passed on to the players in the form of higher rakes and time charges. Jeff |

i think dealing poker is a very good job that pays well. i think the reason for the shortage of dealers is that many people dont know about it so they dont get involved. its also difficult for some people to go through the 8 week training course or however long it is. another reason why the floor will tell you they ran out of dealers is because they didnt expect there to be a need for more dealers so they didnt phone people in or get enough people to cover the shift. its not like these people can just be created out of thin air. i think a problem with dealing is that alot of dealers get down time when there are less tables going then the amount of dealers called in to work. of course you could look at it as getting a nice break but theyre losing money as they arent getting tipped while having down time.

While we're at it lets stop tipping servers too. Give them a flat hourly rate and give them very little motivation to be polite and prompt. Next time you're waiting 45 minutes for your steak it will be because the server(possibly a former dealer) is smoking a joint out back because he doesn't give a crap if you're happy or not. [/ QUOTE ] This argument definitely doesn't apply at rooms where tips are pooled. This is how it was when I used to play at Foxwoods (years ago, so this may have changed); there was a vote among the dealers and they chose that they wanted tips to be pooled. The result is that when I throw a dollar to a dealer, it is getting split with so many other dealers (it's a big room) that my guy is not getting any real incentive to keep providing good service. |

Yeah, not sure about most dealers but I like it hella lots when people throw me redbirds, or anything more than a buck actually.
I deal much faster when I am getting tipped generously and muuuuuuchhhhhh slower when everyone at the table is stiffing me. Like in 75-150, I just pretend like it's my first day. |

[/ QUOTE ] I know in Tuncia they keep their own. I was told they did in LV but I don't know for sure. When I was a BJ dealer in Tuncia every casino shared tips (with the exception of poker dealers) besides Fitzgeralds. I was glad we did it that way even though I felt I pulled in more than the average. I was scared if we kept our own I would start getting some of the crappier shifts. It would be more than just boring not dealing a single card on Carribean Stud from 4am - noon. |

they throw thier cards at the dealer's hands and purposely try to cut them. LOL. [/ QUOTE ] And this makes you laugh? It's not just the Big Game players who do this. Regards, T |

Do you want dealers with an incentive to get more rake out of a game? [/ QUOTE ] To those who are thinking it, Randy isn't talking about getting more rake by dealing more hands. T |

foxwoods still pools but not for the reasons youve been told. when foxwoods devised the contract with the state to run the casino they put in the contract that dealers would pool tips. perhaps its true that at the time dealers voted to pool the tips. ive been told foxwoods is trying to fix this with the state contract to allow dealers to keep their own tips.

[ QUOTE ]
many dealers make $30/hr+ and i dont believe they should be entitled to make that much for a service job that requires little training and no college education. of course, many dealers are excellent and deserve this rate to keep them in the casinos but many do not. [/ QUOTE ] I agree on your point that dealers should be satisfied with any tip they receive on a pot and by and large this is true. As for how much they deserve to make per hour I have to disagree in that I don't mind if a dealer makes $30+/hour so long as the dealer doesn't complain if he makes $20/hour. I usually tip $1 per pot over $25 I win. If the drunk guy at the end of the table wants to tip $10 for a $200 pot then more power to him and good for the dealer. So in that sense I really don't care if the dealer makes $50 per hour. He'll get his fair share from me and if someone wants to be even more generous then that's fine too. |
