It was a hard-nosed play by AJ and totally within the rules. Though, I'm not sure why he would go for the injury risking collision when he clearly had the option to slide cleanly around to the plate.

Smacking the plate was just an a-hole thing to do... just as bad as stealing a base up 6 runs, flipping a bat or watching a home run. Was Barrett out of line? Of course. Did I enjoy the fire in his belly and the cheap shot on AJ? You bet.

Should be a fun one tomorrow with CZ pitching.

He probably will get at least 8 or 10 games. Considering the going rate for throwing at a batter intentionally is 4. I think a point-blank forearm to the neck is a lot worse than a 90mph fastball to the shoulder.

This statement shows a total ignorance of baseball.

Pitchers always get suspensions 2-5x longer because they appear in less games.

For suspension purposes, the following rough estimates apply.
1 position player game = 2-3 RP games = 5 SP games

I don't hate AJ at all, the Twins turned him into Nathan and Liriano

By this, I assume you are implying "MLB baseball rules & guidelines", not baseball in general.

Thanks.

1) He did not "clearly have the option" to slide around the plate. Barrett was pretty much blocking the entire thing.
2) If the ball arrives at the same time as AJ, then AJ can easily knock the ball out of his hands by rolling him over.
3) Personally, I'd be more inclined to run the guy over rather than side-slide and try to reach my left arm over to get the plate. I guess you don't realize how hard this is to do when running/sliding full speed.

4) When you steamroll a catcher, the ump rarely gives you credit for touching home, even if it looks like you inadvertantly did. Standard M.O. here is to go back and touch home to make sure. So AJ slapped it...so what? He was on the ground. Did you really expect him to STAND UP then touch it with his spikes?

5) Stop talking about baseball until you root for a real team.

AJP got up and made contact with Barrett again.

By this, of course you mean by AJ going out of his way to walk around Barrett and Barrett bearhugging him, right?

[/ QUOTE ]

Did we watch the same play? AJ dropped his shoulder into Barret and made no effort to walk around him.

As far as I know, there is no official document that states the formula. It is just common sense based on how many games it actually causes a player to miss.
If a starting pitcher beans a starting position player, they can't just suspend them each for one game, because the SP won't miss a start.
In fact, the system is already flawed in favor of SPs, who are often appealing 5 game suspension until they pitch, then dropping the appeals immeadiately after the game to get the 5 games to fit their schedule as best as possible.
The RP numbers are a little trickier, because some are used more than others.

The cliff notes version is that I made the formula up, but I'm pretty confident that its close to the way MLB doles them out.

Watch the play again. Barrett was practically standing on homeplate at the time of the collision... he was not up the line a few feet as a catcher attempting to block the plate does. There was plenty of plate there for him to touch. As I said, it was a legit play but not smart one. This is May not October and I dont think the risk of injury was worth it.

Let me guess... your 17 maybe 18? Or am I giving you too much credit?

You're talking about after he stood up and was walking back to the dugout, right? I've watched the replay a few times now and don't think he was trying to lower his shoulder into Barrett.
