psandman-

I didn't meant to imply that they should do it for any moral reasons. I meant that if they want you to stick around and keep the game going they shouldn't charge you a rake.

I also meant that I wouldn't personally agree to play heads up unless the house let us play rake free.

If you want to tip lots of money that's fine and it's also your business. I have no problem with that.

But in my opinion, rakes and time charges for poker players are way too high, and tournament juice has become exorbinant. For example, I pay from $12 to $18 an hour just to sit at the table in the games I play in, and that's before any tips.

Yeah, I went to a restaurant the other night and they wanted $50 for a steak. Can you believe that, I mean I can get a steak dinner for $4.99 at Ellis Island. So I ordered the steak but didn't tip the waiter because I don't like the price of the steak.

I couldn't agree anymore. I tip well 95% of the time but I am certainly not going to tip if my service is crappy cards, resturaunt, ect.) A tip is a tip, I don't appreciate people telling me what what I should or shouldn't tip.

Last weekend I had a dealer, when asked if the last game he was in was loose or tight said "It
s real loose,...there are 3 people on the table thouogh that don't tips, thats so annoying." I started laughing out loud at the dealer and said "Did you ever consider that they don't tip because you are jerk enough to make a comment like that, that is why I will never tip you again in my life not because I am cheap"

[/ QUOTE ]

Think about what you are saying here. If you sit down in a game dealt by this dealer in the future and he gives you good service your not going to tip him? That's fine, you can do that . . . but get off your high horse about how you tip for good service if your not going to tip this dealer when he does give you good service.

"First off, almost all poker players are aware that dealers do work for tips."

I took a new job in a tourist room about a month ago. In that month I have had two downs in which I made ZERO including one this past evening. In both cases I do not believe that this had anyhting to my dealing skills. Both cases I opened the table and the players were tourists who came in together, Some of the players clearly had no experience but others seemed to have played before.

You know what, thats life, sometimes you get undertipped, sometimes you get overtipped, I don't much care. I certainly don't retaliate, I try to make the game as enjoyable as I can. But then I come home from work and i read this about how all the poker players know dealers live on tips, well I don't think these players did.

Quite honestly I think you might be a little out of touch with the reality of Low Limit (and low buy in NL)and low buy in tournament play in tourist rooms.

I fully agree with this. Low limit games on the strip are filled with people who have never played poker before and know nothing about it.

People who aren't sure how much they can bet on the turn in a 2/4 game aren't not tipping because they have a problem with the dealer.

It's interesting how often someone tells me I'm a little out of touch. Are you by any chance associated with Bluff magazine? They seem to think that I don't have a clue either.

That's fine, but some people in these games tip far more than many high limit players. Which would you rather deal, a low limit hold 'em game, or a high limit stud game? I happen to know the correct answer, and its not close.

Best wishes,
Mason

"Was the floor man who did this a big black guy? When I was there this guy got into an argument with a couple of players at another table. I also thought he was rather rude when I said "have a good night" when I left."

No, but I know who you are talking about. He was rude to me when I was leaving one night too. Otherwise, I've had no problems with him. YMMV.

btw, All in all, I like the room.

FWIW, I played the no-limit at Hooters tonight and had a blast! YMMV.

Best Wishes

Howard

PS, When we were told to break the game, it was the only game of that ilk in the room. We were told the game was over, first. Then when I strongly protested, he said it would be full rake. First he said, game is over, here's your racks. FWIW.

And to the poster who mentioned two old guys playing heads-up......

I may be old but my friend in the game is 24 years old.

Happy Pokering,

Howard

Well you could be in business where you have to pay rent on an office and a secretary and her health insurance and and and....or you could pay rake and tips.

At least in this room you talk to the HEAD HOUNCHO about this problem.
Try doing that in other rooms.
Do you think Howard could sit and talk to the heads in say:
The Bellagio ( I play there often but doubt Mr. D would talk about this problem)
At Mandalay Howard might be BANNED FOR LIFE just for asking to talk abuot this.
Ceasers, FOR GET IT.
Mirage, umm maybe.
Wynn, might be close.
Anyway, this was a bad deal for Howard. I will talk to Lee about it today and let Mr. H (bbq king of Las Vegas) know what is said.----
