Strega - Tori Amos has also done covers of Elton John's "Daniel" and Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide". Both are pretty good.

Hey Al,

I was lucky enough to hear both of them live.
Both are good ones!

Easy one, "Hotel California" by the Gypsy Kings.

Led Zeppelin - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You > Joan Baez's original

[/ QUOTE ]
She didn't write it, but that is the version they listened to and worked from.

Johnny Cash - Rusty Cage, Mercy Seat, Hurt
Pearl Jam - Last Kiss

I don't even like the original versions of three Johnny Cash ones. Last Kiss is a great song no matter what.

i've always considered Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah" to be one of the best covers ever.

[/ QUOTE ]

That is because it is the best cover of the song.

Wyclef does a pretty good cover of "No Woman, No Cry." It is just a little bit more upbeat than Bob's, and I think it works pretty nicely.

Train Kept A Rollin'-The Yardbirds or Aerosmith both have smoking versions of this song. I'm pretty sure someone else wrote it. Yes, Tiny Bradshaw wrote it, although I think inspiration came from the Johnny Burnette Trio.

Also, The Yardbirds have a great version of 'Smokestack Lightning', which I believe was written or performed by Howlin' Wolf.

Jimi Hendrix version of "All along the Watchtower" is better than Dylan's (as is the version Hendrix and BB King played of "Like a Rolling Stone").

Jose Gonzalez song "Heartbeats" (from the Sony Bravia commercial) is a cover of a swedish band called the Knife.

What else...I like Pearl Jam's version of "Crazy Mary" a lot.

Children of Bodom - Rebel Yell > Billy Idol original

But I prefer metal...so that's probably swaying my decision.
