[ QUOTE ]
If it were for four comparable Astros players? I would be saying I don't know how Baltimore or Philadelphia could be boneheaded enough to agree, but i'd sure gladly take it. [/ QUOTE ] And you can't think properly of "comparable Astros" players because you already think everyone in the Cardinals system sucks. So you just think the Astros would be giving up four [censored] players for an all-star... So basically the top two Astros prospects plus another nice prospect, plus a young contributor on the major league squad, and you'd have no problem giving that up for a player who has a questionable future? A player who is only a small improvement over the current player in the next few years but will cost 10x as much if he does manage to stay healthy? |

Dontrelle Willis has a questionable future and is only a slight improvement over Anthony Reyes? Now I know you're on crack.

[ QUOTE ]
Dontrelle Willis has a questionable future and is only a slight improvement over Anthony Reyes? Now I know you're on crack. [/ QUOTE ] That's not my judgement. That's your boys over at Baseball Prospectus. Reyes will be worth 3-4 wins per year for the next 5 years. Willis will be worth 5-6 wins per year for the next 5 years. And that's using a forecast that has Reyes down for about 140 IP/year while Willis racks up 200+. Considering Willis will be paid nearly 10x as much. I don't see how this will be financially plausible for a franchise that works under a budget constraint. And according to the articles about the rumor, Willis' questionable mechanics have many experts predicting arm troubles in the very near future. edit to add the following from BP... [ QUOTE ] Here's one to keep an eye on. Reyes fought through a number of elbow problems while pitching at USC, so those concerns will forever loom. Still, the numbers from his first pro season were incredible. Pitching between Palm Beach and Double-A Tennessee, in 111 innings Reyes struck out 140 and walked only 20, a 7:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Even with those peripherals, his hit rates were somewhat elevated, but there's no ignoring that kind of command indicator. He boasts a tough slider and low-90s fastball, and at this juncture looks like a future difference maker. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] If you evaluate him not as a star, but as a young pitcher rushed to the majors, his 2004 season is perfectly fine. It was a regression from his rookie season, but remember that that year was a tremendous start followed by considerable backsliding. Willis' complicated mechanics get out of whack on occasion, making his bad starts look very bad. With those mechanics, the heavy workload at 21 and 22, and his good, not great, strikeout rate, he's not the safest bet over the next year or two. [/ QUOTE ] |

WTF? 1 run and six hits in two games at Coors Field, are you kidding me St. Louis? With that line how in the hell do you actually win a game?

Great performance by Carpenter tonight. He was hittable, but couldn't give anything up and didn't. Impressive.

Suppan's ERA sees the better side of 5.00 since May.
And since the 10 run shellacking he received from Atlanta, Suppan has only given up 2 runs in 20 innings over 3 starts. Hopefully the regression to his career mean continues through the end of the year... |

i wonder who the last guy was to have a season as good as rolen's 2006 yet be directly responsible for losing three games to the same (incompetent) opponent. that has to be some kind of record.
