[ QUOTE ]
I wasn't talking about what the Marlins would want. I was talking about what would make the trade slightly more even. I'm sure the Marlins are just itching to trade one of the best pitchers in the game for 4 unspectacular prospects because, hey, it's the Cardinals! [/ QUOTE ] These are the actual parameters of a deal that were being talked about between the two teams as reported by some source. This is not some trade cooked up by a Cardinals fan looking for a one-sided deal. And you still haven't answered how you know any of these prospects are unspectatcular. Do you know every prospect in every organization across the entire Major Leagues? Or is it just the fact that they don't play for the Astros so they are obviously devoid of talent? |

[/ QUOTE ] I've seen what Reyes and Duncan have done at the major league level this season and it's pretty unspectacular. Now you want them to be the centerpiece of a trade for the best young pitcher in the game? And please, 'as reported by some source'? I'll tell you what source reported it, the St. Louis Post Dispatch cooked this up based off a message board rumor post by Rasmus's father. LOL. web page Hell, there have been rumors in the Houston media that the Astros are close to trading for both Abreu and Tejada. I guess that makes it true. |

trade for the best young pitcher in the game? [/ QUOTE ] They're trying to trade for Willis, not Liriano or Santana. |

I've seen what Reyes and Duncan have done at the major league level this season and it's pretty unspectacular [/ QUOTE ] Duncan has a .904 OPS and has driven in 16 runs in only 91 at bats, not to mention he's hitting in the two hole. To put that in perspective, he's driving in runs at about the same pace as Rolen. The only player on the team hitting home runs at a faster pace is Pujols. If Duncan has been pretty unspectacular so far as you say, then the same can be said for the entire Astros team with the exception of Berkman. In regards to Reyes, he is the second best starter on the team so far. I know that isn't saying much, but he has a tremendous upside and has already shown that he can be successful at the major league level. |

LOL. web page Hell, there have been rumors in the Houston media that the Astros are close to trading for both Abreu and Tejada. I guess that makes it true. [/ QUOTE ] Well that just shows how much you know. First, off, did you actually read your link? It goes on to say the Post Dispatch sotry was the ORIGINAL source of the rumor. And it took off from there. Also, I never said it was going to happen. I was looking for Abreu rumors at the time and stumbled across that one. I posted it here because it had yet to be mentioned. As for the actual details of the trade and how you say it's so one sided for the Cardinals... A. Willis isn't the best young pitcher in the game. Sure he had a career year last year, but everything about him says that will not happen again. Most of the projections have Willis slightly outperforming Reyes over the next few years. It's not as big an upgrade as you might think. B. Duncan isn't a centerpiece to this deal. You think he's a centerpiece because he's one of the two names you've heard of. Which means jack [censored]. Just because you haven't heard of the two prospects doesn't mean they are worthless and devoid of talent, sorry to disappoint you. C. Rasmus is actually the other key piece of this deal for Florida. He's a first round pick with major league talent. But still needs a few years to develop. He is the Cardinals future CF, as long as they don't do anything stupid like trade 4 guys for Dontrelle Willis. D. Reyes is unspectacular? What's that make the 3-5 guys in teh Astros rotation, of which you claim is the best in the NL. It's funny how you can so easily dismiss a player from another team who performs better than the majority of the players on your team, but when it comes down to your team everyone has great talent and only needs to simply "turn it around" for them to be the best team. E. I'm sure you thought the Cardinals "stole" Mulder from the A's as well, huh? This is essentially the same deal. |

Umm. What does it matter who the Astros have? That's not what this is about. I wouldn't expect the Marlins to take the Astros mediocre players anymore than I would expect them to take the Cardinals mediocre players.
Just because the Marlins suck doesn't mean they are willing to let the Cards bend them over and [censored] them. |

Yea. His 4.57 ERA just screams 'future star'. [/ QUOTE ] First of all, sample size. Second, his only bad start was his start last night in Colorado. I think it is safe to say that for the most part pitchers do not perform nearly as well in Colorado than they do anywhere else. If you've actually watched him pitch like you so claim, then you would see that he is actually a very talented young pitcher. |

[/ QUOTE ] Because you keep saying how awesomely talented the Astros are, but when the argument turns to this suddenly the Astros are full of mediocre players. Whatever man... Either way you know nothing of any of the four Cardinals players but seem to think they have absolutely no value. I'm sure if the situation were four comparable Astros players for Abreu or Tejada you would have an entirely different perspective... |

If it were for four comparable Astros players? I would be saying I don't know how Baltimore or Philadelphia could be boneheaded enough to agree, but i'd sure gladly take it.
