Elaine,
" I am female aged 24-59 with plenty of disposable income. I am the person advertizers want to target most. Draw your own conclusions." My conclusion is that wrt these forums, this fact would be pretty much irrelevant to most ad buyers or agencies that I've worked with given your accurate statement that "[you] know [you are] in NO WAY representative of 2+2..." |

Good catch. OOT especially is mostly about very young males, not youngish to older women.

Maybe their should be a mods only forum. Where they could talk to other such high minded individuals.I mean come on mods complaining that their posts die to quickly or that other mods are afraid to come here?

I know I am in NO WAY a representative of 2+2 or OOT culture or the general American population. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I am the target audience for most consumer product ads. I am female aged 24-59 with plenty of disposable income. I am the person advertizers want to target most. [/ QUOTE ] Elaine, there's a couple logical problems with these statements...even ignoring the fact that F 24-59 is NOT the person most advertisers want to target. edited to say: Diablo already said why. and as I said above, it's silly to talk about demographics like you did above. it's about relevancy. if I'm selling adult diapers, I don't care about reaching males 21-35. but there is nobody Budweiser cares more about. |

astro, Mat: The real solution to the concerns raised by the scared mods is not to separate the A&E forum from OOT. It's to get rid of the garbage from OOT. Moderate out the really juvenile crap from OOT and a lot of problems get solved. [/ QUOTE ] I don't think astro is willing to do this. |

I have not read a single response on this thread:
Don't do it. The cream rises to the top, the useless, trivial, and worthless get sent down to die. It's natural selection. |

[ QUOTE ] all, i skimmed the thread, but haven't read all of the posts. surely, there must be some data from when sports, politics, etc. split off from oot. pageviews per forum over time, pageviews for the whole site over time so we can normalize things, etc. right? did someone post that stuff and i just missed it? [/ QUOTE ] Sports has far fewer participants. As for isolating the net effect, that's virtually impossible given that the website itself has grown so substantially over that period of time, skewing any data one may choose to look at. [/ QUOTE ] That's a little surprising to me. I would have thought that you could at least get a basic idea of what the effect was by looking at (oot pageviews/all 2+2 pageviews), (sports pageviews/all 2+2 pageviews) and (oot + sports pageviews/all 2+2 pageviews) over time, but I haven't seen the actual numbers. Maybe the data is just too noisy. Edit: that ignores some of the critical mass stuff that El Diablo was talking about, though, doesn't it .. oh well. |

surely, there must be some data from when sports, politics, etc. split off from oot [/ QUOTE ] Probably...but you would have to keep those data in perspective. The spin-offs of sports and politics were done for substantially different reasons than the proposed spin-off here. Politics and Sports were done because those topics were too big for other topics --- they were dominating the conversation. The proposed A&E spinoff is exactly the opposite --- the proposal is to spinoff A&E not because it is too dominant, but because it is not dominant enough. The underlying thought seems to be that this forum (twoplustwo, not OOT) needs more discussion of A&E --- A&E just isn't discussed enough in OOT; let's create a new forum just for A&E. |
