[ QUOTE ]
I think that lots of people who play now and think they are good will retire from poker by the end of the summer, either from common sense or brokeness. Enjoy the soft play while you can. I also think that when this soft time comes to an end that we might enter a sort of 'golden age" of FL poker. The number of players will decrease and legitimate competition among the facilities (at least here in Tampa and in Palm Beach/Broward) will increase. That will be truly a boon for folks like us. [/ QUOTE ] I'm going to disagree with you on this. I play a bit more in the games available in parimutuals in Florida than others here(i can only sit in front of a computer playing online for so long before i need to be in a live game) and i see many people who lose hundreds a day and still come back. One guy in particular i can honestly say goes through about 1 or 2 grand a week(he does play 7 days about 10 hrs a day) Some of these people have money to burn and 1/2 NL or 1-5 spread is still not a big game. Anyway the 5-5 limit game will have bigger pots than the 1-2 NL I travel a lot for work and wind up playing in casinos in cali, New Orleans, Conn. and Vegas and see many locals who are consistant losers in 6-12, 10-20 who keep coming back. So they will lose but they will always come back. |

The Hard Rock in Tampa still is not saying what they are going to be spreading(as of 12:30 am 6/19). When I was leaving last night I asked one of the Card Room Supervisors(Jim) and he said "The Seminole's Official response is that they currently do not have an Official response yet concerning the new legislation". With The Silks cardroom opening back up 7/1 and also Tampa Greyhound reopening 7/1 the Hard Rock will hopefully get some more much needed competition.

This thread is really getting off of the subject. Since the bill has been passed maybe it's time to close this and move to the B&M area.

[ QUOTE ] Really, we need to push for a 4/8 game which I think falls in very nicely with the wording of the statute. I played 4/8 all the time on the ships and it is a very profitable game even with the $5 rake. The statute clearly says hold'em can have NL games and 4/8 with a $96 maximum loss (hope I did the math correctly) per hand, falls nicely under the $100 maximum buy-in (i.e. $100 maximum straight out of pocket loss per hand). [/ QUOTE ] ANYONE WHO thinks a 3-6 and 4-8 fixed limit game can be beat is a goddamn fool. no fixed limit game can be beat, only spread limits. u outta be pushing for $2-10 spread limits, a very hard game to find and very beatable game. its so easy for u to beat the fish in that game very few casinos willing to offer it cause the good players have too much of an edge. [/ QUOTE ] wow you are a freaking moron 3-6 and 4-8 are absolutely beatable |

[/ QUOTE ] I agree that the B&M forum is the right place to discuss playing poker in Florida, but if people still want to discuss how the legislation is likely to be implemented in this forum, that's fine as well. I expect this thread will die shortly after July 1. |

Long live the thread!!!
Right now much of the discussion revolves around what games are even allowed to be spread, how the rooms are going to interpret the law, etc. So there's still stuff that is legislation-forum relevant to be discussed around here. I agree with the idea that 5/5 limit will likely have bigger pots than 100NL. But both could get pretty re-donk-ilous. Will have to look into learning the strategy adjustments for a 5/5 limit game instead of the normal fixed-holdem game that has a double bet-size on turn/river. I also agree with Harry Beanbag's assessment. The games aren't going to just die and be terrible. They'll be insanely good over the first few months but they are hardly going to get super-nitty or dry-up and lose their fish. If that was the case then bigger games elsewhere in the country wouldn't be as beatable as they are. It almost sounds like some who are forecasting a quick demise of the games with the pros getting rich and leaving and the fish so quickly busting out and never coming back perhaps don't have as much recent experience playing live poker outside of Florida. And remember that not only are these stakes going to keep bad players in the games longer imo...but that there are plenty of people in Florida with tons and tons of money to burn. Of course you will also have your fair share of RV'ing type retirees who are on a more limited budget. The novelty of finally getting to play NL combined with some rich people not even caring about burning through their wallets could be really interesting. |

But we should continue the discussion here as it relates to the interpretation & implementation of the new law. We should keep talking about how we can push the envelope.

[/ QUOTE ] City buses? Forget it. Public transportation SUCKS in FL. The only place where buses are +EV is Gainesville, and there's no cardroom within 50 miles. Hell, even the cabs are extremely sketchy. And besides, the only place running 24/7 is the Hard Rocks. So that's why you'll mostly play there. Games are the easiest there, too. And yes, this thread should be in B&M now. It's no longer legislation, it's the law. Since it deals with state B&M legislation, it should probably be in B&M in the first place. |

But we should continue the discussion here as it relates to the interpretation & implementation of the new law. We should keep talking about how we can push the envelope. [/ QUOTE ] Would all the Florida cardroom owners and Seminole Tribe members please raise their hands? They're the only ones pushing the law - unless one of the other lawyers would like to make an argument that a customer of a business has standing to challenge a law governing the businesses they frequent. Otherwise, our plan of action is simple -- write and talk to the managers about how great it would be to play mid-stakes games, and that they should argue for the P-M board to allow for that. I anticipate the Seminoles to spread no-cap buy-in NL games on July 1, though. |
