TV: What are you watching tonight?

I think the judges were a little hard on Laila, but not that much. It's more that they were too light on BRC. Her paso was just not very good. It wasn't just the choreography. It was her frame and her performance, especially when in a ballroom frame. She looks good solo, but not with a partner.

The dances tonight are samba and rumba. Samba is my favorite latin dance. For me, it has the most infectious rhythm of any latin dance, and I think it suits the music the best. It's the dance I'm most likely to mingle in with my lindy, actually, but I don't tell my partners I'm doing it. Lindy's generally danced to jazz, sure, but many DJs, including me, will throw in some old school funk, funk-blues, or even hip hop, and the samba rhythm fits these beats surprisingly well. I don't keep the latin arm styling, but I'l still get my and my partner's hips going. Samba is also a lot of fun to watch. You remember how both Emmitt and Slater chose samba for the dance in the finals where they could pick whatever dance when given a certain song? There's a good reason for that.

I'm not sure who's doing what yet, but it's certain that either dance is going to be pretty bad for both Cliff and Clyde. They just don't have the hips, performance, arms, or frame to pull off either. Laila will probably be pretty hot in samba, but mediocre at best in rumba. Samba will give her time to show off on her own, but rumba she'll be connected too often, and she'll have to be graceful. I'd be a little nervous for Heather's samba because of the way you have to press off the floor and settle onto your feet in order to get your hips going right. Her leg will be a real drawback for that. I bet she can pull off a nice rumba, though. And for the 3 best guys, they're all obviously going to look great to excellent doing samba, or at least they should. I'd expect Joey to be at the top, then Apolo, then Ian. For the rumba, I'd expect Ian to drop a little compared to the other two. Rumba's just a really hard dance to make look good, and I haven't been convinced that Ian has that dance in him, yet. As for BRC, I really, really hope he gets a samba. His rumba would be a total trainwreck, but there might be something for him in the samba, even if he won't get his hips moving right.

9:30-11pm ABC - The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman:
The 12 remaining bachelorettes endure a bootcamp, and a drill seargent gives the toughest lady a rose. Andy shows off his bedside manner to a woman who is injured. He takes 5 women to a mud-spa, where he gives one woman a message, and accompanies 4 others to an auto race. Andy also goes on a two on one date aboard an aircraft carrier berthed in San Diego, but brings only one rose with him. After the concluding rose ceremony only 9 bachelorettes remain.

Aaaand, we're off.

First thought: ZOMG Edyta and Kym. Edyta always gets the best costumes, but Kym is looking mighty fine.

Ian didn't look all that hot in his rehearsal bit, but he did much better in his performance. Good song choice, too. However, his technique is somewhat lacking. The judges comments were a little harsh, but on target. He got his hips really going in his intro, but in the steps, he didn't have the push and settle that really gets them going. His samba rhythm was muddy. The "boom, ba-boom, boom, ba-boom" just wasn't there, at least not as good as it could have been. Ian was better than this. I agree w/ the 24.

Oh dear. Clyde got rumba, AND he's traveling instead of practicing. Actually, I would have groaned for his samba, too. The dance, well, was a little better than I expected. I was actually surprised that they did American style rumba instead of the international style. I don't really dig the American rumba, but oh well. Clyde is really not very good. He's plodding on his heels. Rumba is supposed to be danced 100% on the balls of your feet. He's collapsing his frame. He's not even all that expressive in his face. That 13 was a little rough, but not too far off. Yes, I'd never thought I'd be saying this, but I'd rather watch BRC dance than Clyde.

Uh oh, Heather got the samba. And shockingly, they actually show that she's an amputee. I disagree w/ Len. Her hips and her rhythm were a little flat, but better than I expected. She looked like she had fun, but her dance wasn't as exciting as the samba should and could be. I think that at this point, it's pretty clear she won't be going too far. Her 21 was spot on. She is impressive, but she isn't going to be at the top.

Joey is up next. Rumba is a hard dance, but he looked really sharp at points in his rehearsal, and his arms are the best in the whole show. Hmmm. Joey was a little under his potential this week. As expected, his arms were oustanding, but his footwork wasn't all that great. The judges didn't comment about him stepping on his heels, but he was doing it, and it negatively affected his hip action. Len's comments about overly feminine arms are pretty funny to me. Joey's arms were no more girly than the pros IMHO, but they knock him for it. I didn't agree w/ what the judges knocked Joey for, but I agreed w/ their score of 25. I'm surprised w/ how much I'm agreeing w/ the judges at this point. Usually I disagree by a couple of points. We'll have to see who fills Joey's void at the top.

Edit: I should also note that I am extremely jealous of Joey's excuse to grab Kym's ass on national television.

I'm sad Cliff got samba. I thought he'd do a little better at rumba. The judges were dead on about his performance. His technique was imprecise, but his performance was pretty good. He looked like he was having a good time, but yeah, he wasn't very good. HIs 18 was, eh, a little low. I was thinking 19 or 20, but I'd be surprised if he gets saved.

Laila's rehearsal was all schitck, but we'll see about her dance. I am a little skeptical of Katy due to her love of Maksim [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img], but she did do great. She danced more feminine than I expected, and her technique was solid. I wasn't blown away, but she was good. I was thinking 27, but 28 I can deal w/.

Let's see if Apolo can pass her up. He has it in him, and he was blessed w/ the samba. Oh [censored]. He definitely deserves to pass her up. The song choice was great, and his dancing was outstanding. I could nitpick on his footwork, but his frame, footwork, posture, rhythm, and performance were stronger than any other dancer. I'm very surprised to see a 30 at this point in the season, but he earned it. That was outstanding.

Sucks to BRC to have to follow that up. Oh, and he got the rumba. Well, I'm glad he's not trying to dance to a country song, and really, he wasn't that bad. His arm styling was in the right ballpark. He never pressed through his steps so as to get his hips moving. He got a 15, and, hmmm. That seemd a little low, but I guess he was a little worse than Cliff, so I suppose it was fair.

So, it seems that Cliff has pulled out of the bottom two with the judges. This will actually make for an interesting results show tomorrow. I'd wager that both BRC and Clyde have better fan bases than Cliff, so I think that Cliff will still be my pick to leave the show. BRC is, unfortunately, my pick to join him in the bottom two. Clyde won't go because sports stars seem to do a little too well.
