[ QUOTE ] Davis doesn't draft QBs high. [/ QUOTE ] Dude, the Raiders almost never have draft picks this low. The gist is that the Raiders were doing everything in their power to get a QB so they can get Calvin Johnson. They know he's the better pick and they want him. But if they can't get a QB, and they won't, they have to take JaMarcus Russell. There's no other way around it, unless you take Brady Quinn instead. [/ QUOTE ] Heh, they could always wait and take Stanton, Edwards or Beck in the second round. Who's even available besides Culpepper? Rattay? |

david lewin on footballoutsiders has a qb procpect ranking system( woops, editing, read it worng)
quoting a post from those boards [ QUOTE ] Of the QBs drafted in rounds one or two between 1997-2006, the system's five favorites have been: Philip Rivers Peyton Manning Ben Roethlisberger Chad Pennington Matt Leinart In that order. Its predicted worst passers: Ryan Leaf Jim Druckenmiller Michael Vick Akili Smith Kyle Boller In that order again. The system should be taken very, very seriously. [/ QUOTE ] |

There is history with the Raiders not drafting QBs in the first round. I didn't mean the #1 pick. Honestly, I think they should but will Davis who makes or heavily influences the draft decisions allow it? It hasn't happened in a long while. Oakland since 1982 has drafted 4 Quarterbacks in Day 1, 1991 with Todd Marinovich 1993 (24th overall) with Billy Joe Hobert (3rd), 2001 with Marques Tuiasosopop (2nd) and Andrew Walter in 2005 (3rd). I like how you say there is no other way around it. Let's see what happens. They should draft a QB, will they, I doubt it. |

david lewin on footballoutsiders has a qb procpect ranking system and says JaMarcus should be a SECOND DAY pick. quoting a post from those boards [ QUOTE ] Of the QBs drafted in rounds one or two between 1997-2006, the system's five favorites have been: Philip Rivers Peyton Manning Ben Roethlisberger Chad Pennington Matt Leinart In that order. [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] I believe FO has done research which showed that the best predictor of QB NFL success is # of college starts made. seems really simple, and oddly counter-intuitive at the same time. |

comp % too. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah its a combination of the two. I didn't see if this was mentioned but the system says Quinn is likely to be a "good" NFL QB and Russell is likely to be an average to below average passer at the next level I believe. |

[/ QUOTE ] But he's got a cannon arm. You know, throwing 80 yards for every play is a requirement of all NFL QBs. Honestly, precision is so much more important for most NFL QBs. I love a cannon arm like Vick but b/c he is so inaccurate, it has hurt him throughout his career. Accuracy >>> Arm Strength for almost any NFL QB. I'm also not sure about either of the Top QBs, QB IQ. I wasn't impressed with Russell in most of the big SEC matchups I saw with him over the last 2 years. Yes he blew away ND, but honestly all the QBs including Quinn could have blown away ND's secondary. |

I meant all the QBs in the draft including Quinn. ND secondary was a joke. This was painfully obvious not only in the LSU game, USC game and the Michigan game but also any decent opponent all year long.
