bz, Wow, wow, wow. <shell game> "the visitor has a 1 in 3 chance" You are infinitely more stupid than I could have possibly realized. [/ QUOTE ] Lol at BZ not knowing the skinny of 3 card monte. I have a super serious and good post coming up, don't write me off, party people. I am reading this thing in it's entirety. I ignored it at first, but it is a classic. |

[ QUOTE ]
tennis - play for fun sporadically, I've had maybe 2 tennis lessons in my life baseball - batting cages prolly like 10 times in my life. played in a few games with my family when I was about 10 years old football - you mean american football? played one year in 8th grade as a defensive end on the C team (there was an A, B, and C team, C being worst). I scored a touchdown however, ran it like 80 yards in, so I am awesome waterpolo - never played just to be clear here, i'm interested in being the bare hands catcher vs you with racket [/ QUOTE ] sorry, i forgot to mention i played a season of american football when i was 23. I was a conerback, and sucked a lot of ass are you interested at all? |

"All you and Ken had to do was say 'wow, we sure stepped into something without thinking, but now that we are seriously thinking about doing this, we've realized we spoke up too boldly and too soon. Sorry, Nick, we have to back out of this one. Drinks on us.' " [/ QUOTE ] am I the only one who thinks this is still immoral, and unfair to Nick? |

El D, I apologized to Nick and he accepted. That said.... Yes, I think your game would be immoral. Sorry if you disagree. You are literally taking money out of the pocket of someone else, and giving him no chance at it. [/ QUOTE ] BZ, I don't wish to dogpile on you, but i'm sure your familiar with the words 'facetiousness' and 'hyperbole'. '150%' and 'no chance' are obvious exaggerations. He means he has a large edge. I apologize if you've since realized this, as I am only 3/5 of the way through. I am going to post an analogy of this, a 'hustle' I used to run, after I finish reading this behemoth. |

[ QUOTE ] Let me ask you a question. If you showed this thread to any respected poker player or gambler do you think they would say you are correct in your behaviour here? If you want people to take your side, print this up and show a dentist or something. You are not only preaching to the wrong choir, you are preaching to the wrong religion [/ QUOTE ] I absolutely love this line. I am stealing it. I apologize in advance, sir. [/ QUOTE ] Its all yours! <3 |

Besides, almostbusto wins the analogy part of this thread for his HU tournament analogy. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, if we're playing the razz version of the analogy game... Seriously, you really think that? It was atrocious. |

Given that neither side agreed to complete terms at any point, I don't think it's a big deal. Ken ran his mouth saying any money whenver, that's not really a complete deal. Immoral? possibly, but just barely, I'd say. Whereas 1C5 had previously agreed to $500 in November, and kept saying, "oh man I'm getting hustled, but it's too late I agreed to the terms." |

Given that neither side agreed to complete terms at any point, I don't think it's a big deal. [/ QUOTE ] Well, the rules to this game seemed pretty clear by the time Ken made his offer [ QUOTE ] Ken ran his mouth saying any money whenver, that's not really a complete deal. [/ QUOTE ] maybe this was never a complete deal, but there was an offer made by Ken which he pulled, which is what I think is immoral |

[ QUOTE ] tolb, The context of that question was in response to bz bringing up this scenario: "It would be stealing if Roger Federer dressed up as someone really terrible at tennis, made it seem like you had a chance to win, then pulled off his mask and said "surprise! Thanks for your money!"" Nick did not engage in any deception regarding his qualifications. As for the statements you quoted, it's pretty impossible to believe that Stanford students could be deceived in any way by statements like that. I mean, look at all the people early in the thread who clearly knew Nick had a big advantage. Are you trying to tell me that Stanford students were dumber than all those people? Impossible. They obviously knew exactly what they were getting into when they made the deal. [/ QUOTE ] It seems to me that you find it perfectly acceptable that Nick lies about his own ability, but if one of his opponents changes his mind before the details of the bet are ironed out and any action has taken place (that is neither person has put anything at risk) for some reason crosses the imaginary line of non douchbaggery to douchebaggery. [/ QUOTE ] Ahhhhhhhh, wtf is wrong with you people? (albeit, the minority) In the most extreme example, the shell game, or 3 card monte, there is deception because the guy says what is going to happen, AND THAT IS NOT WHAT HAPPENS! The litle pea is never there, in any shell! And when he shows you which shell, it has been slipped back in!!! That is a world of difference between saying simply you're not that great at a skill. That is not a requirement in any contest in any aspect. YOU SHOULD ENTER ANY CONTEST, GAME, ET CETERA, ASSUMING YOUR OPPONENT IS THE BEST AT WHAT YOU'RE DOING, EVEN WITHOUT MONEY ON THE LINE. It is shocking how people can't see that the two are night and day. |

2) i dont think the ken "lock" analogy is the same as the analogies ive been using. Nick was the one with MORE knowledge in this case, (knowledge that he knowingly held back because it was a hustle) so he was in complete control of the deal the entire time. if "kenthecow" was in fact Andy Roddick and THEN challenged nick under false pretenses, i would not approve, and would notify Nick. [/ QUOTE ] Is that why you had to let us know that ken was a Stanford tennis player? Because he never brought up when first accepting the challenges. Why aren't you telling his he was wrong? [ QUOTE ] hey, i'll play you where you have to throw and i use a regular racquet for 5k. and i'm interested, what are the conditions for the 100k match with gus? [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Yo Nick, I'll play you in this match. Why did you ignore me?! I use racquet you throw. [/ QUOTE ] |
