Scotty,
I addressed that in my post: "I have no problem with anyone who chooses to play these people - they are almost certainly going to lose that money to someone. I just sometimes decide I'd rather not be that person." If they are nice people that I like and I know they are going to be hurt by their actions, I don't want to be the one to benefit from that. Simple as that. I don't think poorly in any way towards the gambler who takes their money, and in fact acknowledge that he is probably a better gambler than me. I gamble for fun, not for a living, and that has a big impact in the decisions I make wrt gambling. |

to answer your earlier questions:
1) ive never thought "this guy is obviously drunk" when at a poker table. ive noticed people playing not their best, and ive noticed people who i think i'm better than, but never drunk. and no, ive never played live at high stakes, so no experience there either. i dont know what i'd do if i was playing with a drunk guy. i'd might leave the game, or at least him ask him to stop if it was a good ring game that I didnt want to leave. 2) i dont think the ken "lock" analogy is the same as the analogies ive been using. Nick was the one with MORE knowledge in this case, (knowledge that he knowingly held back because it was a hustle) so he was in complete control of the deal the entire time. if "kenthecow" was in fact Andy Roddick and THEN challenged nick under false pretenses, i would not approve, and would notify Nick. --------- also, for the rest of the forum, i already apologized for my 33 sng comment, which is the only comment i really regret making. it was out of line and fairly childish. other than that, i have not made ONE comment about being from stanford, being smarter, etc, that el d et al keep grouping me and ken together with. the only reason i started posting in this thread is because i saw some alarming comments in Nick's AIM convo that upset me. |

Read the original post very, very carefully and analyze the selection of words used. You might just rediscover something very important about this prop bet.

caldarooni,
despite your constant shots at me, im going to ask you this question. look at Nick's original post. Do you think that demonstrates integrity, given what we know now? Do you think Ken backing out of the deal that he had not yet completed shows less integrity than Nick's actions? |

To be completely honest, I have never played this prop bet before. But I have played 1 or 2 games for fun and been very successful. That is why I was trying to find some marks.
But today I played a 2 hour match and let me tell you something. I will probably not be able to serve for a month and my shoulder has never felt this bad. I had shoulder surgery in 2003 and it was never this bad before the surgery. Today I played for $1500 and we stopped after the 2nd set, I won the first and lost the second. Since my opponent was a close friend, we called it a push, since he did not want me to really screw up the shoulder, which by the feeling of it, it already is. I was a very good baseball player until I was 16 and I can really zing it, well imagine a couple hundred throws at full speed, your arm is shot. Tennis balls are fairly light and it is terrible for your arm throwing them like you have to in this kind of match. I just thought some of you would find this interesting. and totally off topic, today at the Wynn I lost 4 out of 5 rock, paper, scissors matches to this great guy from Houston, his name is Carlton, anyone here know him?. we were playing $100 a pop |

quick thoughts
1. anyone who saw how nick was willing to take any amount of action, saw the way he pretended like he was just a degenerate, and didnt think that this was an obvious hustle is really gullible. i read about 3 posts from nick and decided there was zero chance i would be participating in the gambling in this thread without more info. 2. bz - you are a good poker player and probably a good kid, but i dont think i'd ever gamble with you. i don't think we have the same ethics when it comes to these things, and i don't think you really understand what gambling is about. its either that or you're trying to make it seem ok that you guys back out and insulted him, because condemning him for running a hustle on some gullible, overconfident 2+2ers is just ludicrous. If you were my friend and we agreed to a bet, and you realized later that you had no chance of winning, i would probably cut you a deal or just cancel the bet if you asked me. if you just backed out and refused to go ahead with it without clearing it with me, i'd never gamble with you again. -nation |

Let me ask you a question. If you showed this thread to any respected poker player or gambler do you think they would say you are correct in your behaviour here? If you want people to take your side, print this up and show a dentist or something. You are not only preaching to the wrong choir, you are preaching to the wrong religion [/ QUOTE ] I absolutely love this line. I am stealing it. I apologize in advance, sir. |
