they're not taking bets on the steelers over the weekend so they can clear the bandwidth for people betting on the pre-season games, i reckon. this means, provided they do put the bet back up with the offer intact, that i will be able to get involved. i should have the money tomorrow but monday at the latest. go steelers!

I think it's probably to keep from being caught off guard in the case of a major injury that might cause a ton of bets to come in at once before they can adjust the line. Though the Steelers players seem to be more likely to get injured when there's NOT a game (Porter, Roethlisberger).

Marquis pretty much nailed it two posts up.

Because these lines were up before the last week of the NFL preseason, they'll simply suspend betting on it between the times the last wave of games are being played (a number were played tonight) and the time the new injury reports come out. It's basically to ensure they aren't caught with tons of bets on team X after players Y and Z suffer broken legs (or are suspended, etc) before they have time to adjust the lines accordingly.

A real life example was people rushing to place UNDER bets on the Miami Dolphins win total last year as soon as they found out Ricky Williams would be suspended for the entire year. Those who got their bets in quickly got a deal, because after the news was widespread the over/under for Miami dropped by at least 1 full game.
