[ QUOTE ]
Most adults are reasonable enough to know if they have addictive personalities. [/ QUOTE ] you did not qualify this in your earlier advice. [ QUOTE ] Taking Adderal once is not going to kill you, it won't make you suicidal, and you will be able to gauge the worth of the pills for what you are doing [/ QUOTE ] gauge the worth of the pills?? are you serious? this is a prescription amphetamine that, with ONE try, can addict someone. then what? [ QUOTE ] I don't think there is anything wrong with trying adderal if your a level headed person. [/ QUOTE ] *sigh* this is the most ironic part. you keep stating that intelligent, level-headed people should try it. the only thing that will happen to them after a VERY short time is that they will be NOT level-headed, and stupid from the abuse of prescription drugs. |

Just don't lose sight of the fact that it is an addictive amphetamine. Comparing it to caffeine is only setting yourself up for a disaster.

Amphetamines (aderall) have a punding effect.
Punding is human activity characterized by compulsive fascination with and performance of repetitive, mechanical tasks, such as assembling and disassembling, collecting, or sorting household objects A lot of ADD people use it because their mind is scattered focusing on several stimuli. the punding effect refocuses their mind on single tasks. Thus, if you are performing an activity that is repetitive it is good. However, for critical thinking it is bad. Also even milder derivatives (ritalin) are quite frankly not safe IMHO and youa re doing extreme harm to your health by continuing to take this drug. There are too many risk factors and i suspect they will stop prescribing this to college students as study aids. Problems could be dangerous weight loss, heart problems, and such things as triggering unknown susceptibilities such as psychosis. Marijuana does this too :-/ Amphetamines have been around students for a long time and back in the day they were used to study by several students. THey are banned because of obvious health risks. |

I take adderall, which was prescribed to me by a doctor. I've always had trouble focusing and it has helped a lot. I had started taking it before I started playing poker, so I'm not sure what it has done for my game. However, I do know that I am sharper during the morning early evening hours, as it's kicking in. For those live tournaments that start around noon, it is great!! I do not feel addicted to it, I don't take more than I'm supposed to, and it hasn't acted as some "gateway" drug. Most the people that have responded to you are responding with no knowledge of what the drug is really like. But, I certainly wouldn't recommend getting it online, or from someone you know. Get a prescription and take it properly.

I've taken adderall a few times, cramming for finals and once for poker. My view is it's a prescription drug so it can't be that bad for you if taken in moderation, but also just because it's a prescription drug doens't make it 100% safe either. If you take it once in a while I don't see any harm in that, but just realize that addiction/harmful side effects are possible if you begin abusing it.

Adderall might as well be considered Meth. It is only a few random strands from being its current substance. I have known people in the medical field that advise you to keep away from it if you can. Prolonged use is not good for your brain.
If you do plan to take it drinking OJ and taking 5-htp supplements will help your body out a lot. |

Oh please.
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/511164?rss altho in USA it wont be banned, adderall could be taken off soon or not prescribed anymore. Just a few deaths mean lawsuits etc etc. this doesn't even address the long term effects of it either. |

Yes, adderall is an amphetamine, so is caffeine. It is not similar to crystal meth at all. [/ QUOTE ] What, what, what? Adderall is LITERALLY a combination of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. [ QUOTE ] it does rule. i take it as often as possible. I'm no doctor, but it can't be worse for you than caffeine. [/ QUOTE ] Well, I AM a doctor, and my opinion is...this is the stupidest thing I've read in recent memory. Caffeine will get you an increased blood pressure and perhaps a case of the jitters. It is quite addictive, but the effects are quitting are relatively mild when compared to other drugs. There are multiple case reports where Adderall has caused sudden cardiac death. Health Canada banned it. (By the way, I don't prescribe it, since I'm not a pediatrician or FP. My average patient is probably 70 years old.) The withdrawal from amphetamines in much worse than that from caffeine. It isn't as if I'm some kind of anti-drug zealot, either. When patients ask me about marijuana, the only suggestion that I tend to make is that they consider non-smoking ingestion routes. |
