[ QUOTE ]
My first exposure to Tuan Le was him complaining that the amateur player at the FT was "a suckout artist" after several of his own stupid calls and sucking out repeatedly. Kind of set me up to not like him. [/ QUOTE ] Same here. If you're a luckbox, okay. But you don't then get to complain about other people. Especially considering that the guy didn't even get that lucky. I think he was like 40% to win or something on the hand where Tuan said that. |

Like I said, he sees so many flops that he is often making such fundamental mistakes. However, he does make great calls, and laydowns, postflop. It's just that you won't see any of these on TV at the final table. I've seen him make correct and hugely hard to believe laydowns postflop in cash games.
Playing triple draw, he and I both took one on last draw. He bet, I raised, he showed 87 perfect, and folded. He was getting at least 15:1, and was right to fold. I made number 2 on that last draw. I have seen him make many great plays late in the hand. I think it's just that he's such a gambler, he can't stand to not take the flop, make the first draw or two, etc. Later, Greg Raymer (FossilMan) |

also, the first thing i've seen him say after 2 of his tournament wins was that everyone else was great, but he just got lucky.

i think the artist part gives him too much credit [/ QUOTE ] When Greg Raymer says someone with whom he has played is a great player late in hands, I believe him. So my opinion of Tuan is higher than yours (and higher than it was before). |

[ QUOTE ] I can promise you that if we asked a bunch of tournament regulars who they don't want at their table, his name would be picked ahead of many players who are clearly considered to be much better. The volatility that comes with having Tuan in the game is huge. [/ QUOTE ] At the Bellagio last fall I ran into Tuan at the first break of a $2,500 (I think?) NLHE event. He had more than quadrupled up in the first hour. I found him two breaks later and he was busted. Amazing really if you think about it. He is the definition of volatility. [/ QUOTE ] didn't he hit a 3 outer against you at foxwoods? luckbox sounds about right |

Here's the thing. I think the likelyhood that he really is a no talent luckbox douchebag who won 3 WPT titles against arguably some of the toughest FT opponents is tantamount to being struck by lightning 3 times and living to tell the tale. Does it happen I suppose. Is it likely? No.
Everyone always says that to win a big event like the ones Tuan has won you have to 1. Play Very well 2. Get lucky several times. 3. Avoid getting unlucky several times (i.e. less bad beats than others) If one hand can define whether someone has game or not (I think it probably can't) I would say the one where Tuan checked all three betting rounds, hit a pair on the river and still laid it down when Brenes fired at the pot. If he was the calling station that some imply, he would have called there. If I remember it was a very small bet in relation to the pot and to his stack. Even though he threw away the winning hand it suggests that he is reading his opponents with some level of care and not just shoving his chips in and sucking out. The thing that guys like Tuan and Gus do so well. Is to make unconventional plays so often that it is literally impossible to put them on a hand.. Gus/Tuan calls a raise and reraise with 95o flop is A95 and the guy with AK gets nailed or..when Tuan/Gus doesn't have it he plays like he does and Hero throws away TPTK because of the doubt these guys have put in everyone's head. Just my $.02 Straight Flushes, SAM |

[ QUOTE ]
Is a luckbox douchebag. Matusow was right. [/ QUOTE ] My impression of him is as being pretty arrogant (I guess that rhymes with your douchbag comment). And I don't think that about anyone else really. He just came across really strongly that way. I thought his brother was a better player than Tuan was when he had his own FT. And I don't think comparisons to Gus Hansen are fair. I think Gus is far superior player, both in terms of reads and in terms of math. I haven't played with the guy like Greg has nor have I seen him outside TV so I also think it's premature for me to judge him. |
