i always laugh when people try and have a serious convo that god exists. i always say that i have faith and pray to a celestial teapot that lives in the universe and can't be seen. i say it gives me the confidence etc to live my life.

then the religiousers call me stupid and that the teapot dont exist and how i can believe that [censored]?

i mention a pot kettle black situation and walk off laughing

I say very very slightly more so, because in the very unlikely scenario where there is a god, and it actually does care whether we, as humans, believe that it exists or not (which I believe to be much more unlikely that it *DOES* care than it exists), it is very very slightly higher EV to believe there is a god.

Also, it's 5:30 AM here, so my brain isn't really working.

pascal's theorem ftw

You are talking about Pascal's wager

[/ QUOTE ]

obv mistake. nh.

[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah I was wondering about that too. I looked up Pascal's Theorem and was wondering "WTF? What does that have to do with anything?"

But yeah, definitely Pascal's Wager FTW.

Pascal's Wager only functions in an absolute vacuum where you either believe in a Christian God or don't. He does not take into account the possible negative EV of believing in the WRONG god.

If we believe in a Christian God, but it actually turns out that it is the Muslim god that awaits us, then it is a possibility that it's slightly higher EV not to believe in any god instead of angering him by believing in the wrong god.

DUCY?

1) If there is a god who qualified a good life solely by my belief in him, I wouldn't want to be in His heaven anyway.

2) I have never tried to convert anyone to atheism, but I have told people to shut up.

When did this place become SMP?

And I can't believe that there are people out there who try to use pascal's wager as a reason to believe in god.

Even tho I sometimes question religion I have been since I was a kid especially around 12 when I lost my best friend. If I had thought he was just gone and that was it and had not gone to heaven i woudlve been devestated. Instead I got thru it cause I knew he was happy and to this day I guess I still believe in it.
