-EV fold obviously, i just bully him around the rest of the night after this since he shows he isnt willing to go all the way with the 2nd nuts

[/ QUOTE ]
you think he doesn't know this when he shows his hand? i've only played with jtl a couple times, but i'm sure he knows that everyone would be thinking this after he folds face up

a few thoughts...

1. i would never show this hand if i folded it. seems like a good way to make your life hard for the rest of the game. im guessing you showed it to induce bluffs and obviously you trust your instincts in these sort of spots alot and do not shy away from tough decisions so that may be best for you but i dont show big laydowns. i used to show them a lot and looking back it was to show everyone what a clever fella i am and not for strategically valid reasons.

2. although i would never ever even think about laying down this hand in this spot i think that you almost certainly made a great laydown in this spot. i cant think of any reason, aside from perhaps the fact that this player makes it a rule to never show any cards, that he would not show a hand, either a bluff or a hand like bottom set/AA. i certainly dont think he would protect his holding that much if he didnt have QQQ. the fact that i think you made a great laydown dosent make it the right play but it certainly shows you have great instincts...

3. if your opponent showed you QQQ in this spot he would be beyond stupid. i show hands fairly often and much more than most but confirming that someone is playing great is not something i ever do. im surprised in the instances where people showed you big hands in the past in similar situations.

J -

No worries . . . my response was not directed at you. You seemed to be a good player and I do not think you posted this to say that I am terrible. My response was directed to reply posts such as:

"Thats what amazes me about live poker. The live players will play so bad, pay off everything, then out of the blue they make a ridiculous fold for no reason.

Last time I saw someone flips over a set and fold, it caught me off guard and I burst out laughing."

Please come to Foxwoods! The games are easy! We are folding middle sets! When you come, have the courage to identify yourself as Equal or PoopinMyPants . . . come soon, before your bankroll has suffered the fate of your feeble poker mind.
